    Fat troops on the street....

For a good solution to the problem of getting people in the army to slim down (amongst other very relevant topics of interest to leadership amongst NCOs), read the book THREE METER ZONE by US Army Sgt-Maj Pendry. I have discussed this book in the Book Reviews section. The advice is great...

    Canadian Military Slang

I knew the G AND SF one, but I like the Grey & Slimy Foreskins better... Didn‘t hear "Tweeties" for the Lornes until the DP2A course. After this weekend, I might take to referring to the 7 RCA as "Really Can‘t Aim"... some of those gunners were horrible shots on the range. It was either that...

    No more Carl G?

Carl G was on the SQ last summer, I can‘t see why they would phase it out. Mind you, I have also heard that they will phase out the 60mm mortar as well, because the M203 GL is now in service (and by the way, quite fun to fire!)

    want advice

Weekend BMQ is very long and drawn out. It seems to take forever to end, and it‘s hard to get in to the "routine" when you are only there less than 48 hrs. That said, if you do the weekend BMQ through the winter/spring, you can finish up by doing SQ and BIQ that summer (if you are infantry)...

    Wearing Uniform in Public (merged)

It is totally unacceptable that military pers should have to put up with such verbal abuse by the citizenry, however, thank god we live in a free country where if you wish to express your opinion, however misguided and irrational, you may do so without fear of repression or abuse of power. That...

    Wearing Uniform in Public (merged)

Just remember, when you are in uniform, you represent not only your unit, but all Canadian Forces soldiers, and so your conduct should be appropriate at all times, even whilst on public transit, etc. Always wear your headdress in public, unless you are eating a meal or enjoying a bevvy in an...

History of removing headdress in the Mess

The MPs at the Meaf don‘t remove their headdress when on duty, doing their routine ... whatever it is they do. I might be wrong but I don‘t think the lads in Meaford get up to too much trouble on base, it‘s far too small. Maybe in the summers when the courses are running...

    Sec 2i/c crse - QL5 - questions

Why would a sect 2ic course be offered AFTER you take a course that qualifies you to be a sect commander? I was under the impression that DP2B (Inf Sect 2ic) was a stepping-stone leadership course intended to be taken before PLQ.

    training landmines (paint or powder)

I think a paintball company in the US is making paintball mines. I recall seeing some on eBay. I have no idea how effective they are, but I think they operated on a 8-gram CO2 cartridge.

when did Sweden start making some of our kit?

NOTHING in Sweden can be done/made/bought cheaper than in Canada. Sweden is the land of the $12 cup of coffee, as is the rest of Scandinavia.

    Dirty boots

Sealant! I knew that civ idiot at ASU clothing forgot to issue me SOMETHING! Dammit... now I have to go back there AGAIN!!!! ARGH! I swear, I should‘ve had someone else checking on this guy at ASU. I had to show that tool how to use his own computer. A system, I might add, I have never...

    BMQ vs BIQ

On a recruit course, there is a distinct emphasis on uniformity. It never pays to be an "individual". You may be allowed to wear a hydration system during the FTX phase, but don‘t be surprised if it‘s not allowed on the morning inspection while in quarters. And remember that the standards go...

    Personal Protective Kit

scm77... The armour thickness and capabilities of various infantry fighting vehicles has been very well researched and documented. A great open source for that kind of information is the Jane‘s Information Group (www.janes.com). Be warned: Access to their information is VERY expensive for the...
