I wonder if their demographic has something to do with it. https://api.army.mil/e2/c/downloads/2022/11/15/62a2d64b/active-component-demographic-report-october-2022.pdf and For some reason, the text didn't copy but it is sort of a map of the US, and the darker the shade, the higher the number...

We're still players: Nutrien Barrick Aneco Eagle Kinross Teck At least those other companies are actual mining and resource companies who have experience playing with jurisdictions and FNs. Private equity firms are in the business of stripping assets and selling debt to each other before...

    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

So Trump now gets to be pissy at Denmark on two fronts. He said he wants the Canal back in US hands; although that was about 15 distraction noodles ago.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I saw this on the 'Royal Canadian Navy Yesterday and Today' FB page: Here’s the reality check people don’t like hearing about the “arm the Coast Guard” debate. There’s a big difference between designing ships so they could be armed in wartime and turning the Canadian Coast Guard into a second...

Spoken like a true real estate shyster. I assume his financial backers all own their houses and everybody else are just losers.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I can't remember if that was on offer when I was there a few years ago (I did a sampling of a number - about 10am - that it itself was a little weird) but I'm not a fan of heavily flavoured booze and found Night Owl to my liking.

    Pipelines, energy and natural resources

Best I can figure, Baffinland is a consortium partially owned (I don't know what percentage) by a US private equity firm. One rumour I have heard - unsubstantiated - is the owners were not honouring local investment, hiring and environmental agreements with the territorial government.

    Pipelines, energy and natural resources

Baffinland Mine is a very large and very rich deposit of iron ore in, well, Baffin Island. The ore is such a high grade that it requires no processing beyond crushing. They have been trucking to a port via a haul road but have been approved for a 149 km rail line that will enable them to...

CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

I suspect he doesn't understand the nuance of what he is yapping about - again. He must have had a Big Mac lunch with somebody from Gulfstream. I'm not sure this is within the authority of an EO but he's pretty much trashed that bridge months ago.

    Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

Not a conditional sentence. All charges were dropped in favour of a peace bond. I didn't see any indication that she was armed with a rifle.

I suspect the public and a lot of the media don't understand the distinction between DND and CAF.

    Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

This has been in the news a few times as it wound its way through the court in typical Canadian velocity. The whole chain of events was intimate partner/ex-intimate partner/relationship related. She doesn't strike me as being all that stable, but that's just me watching the news. She is on...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

We've had three (including a Pony back in the day!) Few problems with any of them. The broad brush of Korean = bad is a repeat of the sentiment of Japanese vehicles back in the 1970s. North American hubris. And what would be the point of that be, other than to drive emotion and marketing...
