2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Are you still serving? Legit question, how did you guys see her as MND? I got out in 2018, so I am way out of touch now.

I honestly didnt notice any big changes while she was in or since she left.

But when I heard her talk she seemed genuine and willing to speak candidly. Her and Big Rick might have been interesting combination.

I was in the procurement world during her tenure. There was a marked difference (in a good way). A lot of the RCAF’s latest big-ticket procurement items are due to her.

I had similar experiences, and noticed that the approach at PSPC changed a bit while she was there as well, to more collaboration to figure out how to get things done (vice here are the rules). Some of the big files seemed to have ministerial support to get through DPS and other hurdles, which was awesome, and that seemed to trickle down to less big files as well.

The scuttlebutt I had heard was that the MND office was supportive of increased NP demands once the justifications were done, so she got shitcanned because she didn't support the cuts to the baseline (along with the hard no to increases).

A bit more detail on what could be on deck under a PP government ...

As others have said about all governments wanting to cut staff, it'll be interesting to see the how.

It’s definitely a turn of events. But events, and a shaping LPC leadership run with what appear to be viable candidates are pushing this.

I notice PP is forced to actually make real policy declarations. And he’s doing more MSM interviews.

All of this might actually mean a spring election could be had. From a strategic point of view if the LPC closes the gap,
to striking range they could have an earlier election to limit CPC spending under election act to even that playing field while riding as high as they can. Waiting until Oct could have the CPC spend the summer shaping the message too much as they are quite adept at doing that.

If the house reconvenes it will be interesting to see if the CPC forces a confidence if the polling starts to look too tight. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t scenario.

Damn, I guess riding on the coattails of the MAGA death cult was a bad idea, don't expect it will get better when the tariffs kick in.

If the NDP still was a party of farmers and labour unions, they may have picked up a fair bit, but the naive SJW side has too much influence on the party for that to happen.

The LPC seems to be driving out some of their outsider candidates; not following to closely but some of the things Gould are saying makes a lot of sense, and similarly Arya seemed pretty good. Gould may be tainted by being part of cabinet for people that want something different, but she wasn't really ever in the public eye, and they never did say why Arya was disqualified from entering AFAIK.

Canada First may not be the solution or slogan they think it will be. Got an invite yesterday via a robocall to attend their bug launch rally downtown on the 15th. I wonder if we will see something in the news cycle that might bury that event…

Chantal Hébert commented on her podcast that the NDP is now facing an existential crisis.

And she commented that Nanos does 4 week rolling polls so it is quite likely that the current support for the LPC is actually higher if the other polls are to be believed.

Yeah, and a lot of people in Ottawa still hate him for jumping on the Freedumb convoy bandwagon as well; that will all likely still be fine for their core supporters but maybe not so much for people that start getting laid off in steel and aluminium mills and lumber yards as exports slow down. Even if the volume of orders doesn't drop there will be a big logjam in actually processing the tariffs at US customs.

Or... it's a bump from a Liberal leadership campaign that's getting Wall to Wall media coverage. CPCs policies are so popular that leadership candidates are stealing them as platform promises, including folks that were in cabinet and had a chance to do exactly what they are promising for the last 9 years.

No doubt. PP had a good grip on the agenda and now it’s shifted leaving the CPC in the background for now. That can change over time. Which is why maybe the LPC could trigger an election sooner rather than later.

Well they got rid of Trudeau and the Carbon tax or rather took it off the chess board.

We haven’t seen that much policy wise until now. Everyone said that they were right to keep their powder dry and not reveal anything until election time. Things have changed and now they have to get it out. Slogans weren’t cutting it anymore.

Canadians will deserve more Carbon tax when the election’s over and Carney re-establishes it. “Oh, I meant I’d cut it…during the elections campaign…” 😆

He already said the consumer tax will be gone, it'll just be put on industry who won't at all pass it along at all......

So you'll just have higher prices because of a carbon tax, but without the rebates.

Having live through a number of Liberal governments I don’t trust the Liberals at all. The best one in my memory was Paul Martin who inherited a dumpster fire from Chretien.
If I were to be asked who I would vote for - a Liberal or Satan I’d seriously consider Satan.

At least I know what he/she stands for.

Part of the plan. The rebates were a pesky detail in transition Canada into a post-nation state. There will be more manna to distribute in Elites’ heaven, thanks to the post-state masses.
