2026 New Governor General (split from Liberal gov't thread)

She won’t. As a former SCC Justice she’ll be better versed than the vast majority of Canadians on not just our written constitution, but the constitutional convention that let our whole government work. She’ll know her role is not an invitation into the policy space, and that crossing that line would start to badly break things.

I am going to bookmark this. I may not need it, but...

;)

'Laurentian central casting'... nice one ;)

Arbour and Vice-Regal Appointments and Powers

There have been critics of her appointment as well. Arbour is straight out of Laurentian central casting. She’s a good person to be our head of state stand-in with a Quebec sovereignty referendum on the horizon (even Blanchet’s a fan), but that makes her a less compelling representative of the nation as Alberta prepares for a separation vote of its own. Having a Westerner in the office might have been better in that regard.

I for one am quite tired of that cast of characters and her appointment appears to be more of the same that allowed JT to do pretty much of what she criticized about the CAF.

Fill your boots. You won't need it. The left and right of arc of the GG have been long, long established. She's not going to muck that up and in doing so create a constitutional crisis - however badly you may want her to. 😉
