2nd Grader Suspended for Drawing Gun

Last year, my son's Junior Kindergarten teacher (3-4 yr olds) found it quite important to note on his report card that he displayed a tendency to play a lot of touch and chase games in the schoolyard.  ( I think it was called "tag" back when I was a kid).  I immediately demanded a full psych evaluation from a licensed professional, because if this doesn't scream "serial killer", I don't know what does...
::)

I acknowledge the humour in your post, and appreciate it.

BUT

3 - 4 year olds go to school??  What's up with that?  Aren't they supposed to be at home, making messes and generally causing mayhem?

Roy

My daughters both need counselling, apparently.

My elder daughter, after our visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, specifically the display on the disaster of 1917, drew a picture, all in black.  "What are those, honey?"
"those are all the bodies from the explosion":
"Oh dear...."

My younger daughter
"Dad, how do you draw a King Tiger?"

Roy,
Hey I'm with ya on that one.  That's the way it is in Ontario.  2 yrs of Kindergarten before they start Grade 1.  I know what you mean.  God forbid kids act like kids.  On another note,  he had a minimum of 45 mins of homework each night if you can believe that.  I kid you not.

Yep, Jr Kindergarten, otherwise known as free daycare.  ;)

The way schools are going lately, I wonder how many parents would home school, if they could afford it.

All it takes is one moron.

Said moron starts as a teacher, becomes a vice principal, then a principal, then Superintendant.  Then we have today.

For crying out loud! I remember when I was in grade school, the boys brought cap guns to play with at recess. And we all played cowboys and indians and cops and robbers! Would they have suspended the whole freakin school?  ::)

Not only suspended for bringing toy guns to school but also for being so politicaly insensitive as to play-kill Aboriginals. As well, i'm almost certain that those robbers were not simply brough to a rehabilitation center where they received higher education at public expense.....

;D

My younger brothers friend got suspended for saying 'Osama Bin Laden' at the airport on a class trip to New York, however this is on a different note because it was near a big terrorist threat scare and they were exercising precaution.

When I was a kid, I was guilty of drawing Spitfires shooting down ME109's Ha!

A stick man with a gun? What a crock of shyte!

Thats way too far over the edge as far as I am concerned.

I am sure he can draw pics to two men kissing, and no one would complain at that school! They'd encourage it!

Boys will be boys, aint nothing wrong with what he did.

My 2 cents,

Wes

Im with you on that one Wes...

Man, the Crap I pulled in Grade school, and even high school...... sheesh... if these rules were in place back then, Id still be making my way through grade 7!!

aboslute pure unadulterated BULL-SHYTE!

no wonder kids are pulling all this crap nowadays... look at their "Role Models"...... these limp wristed PC weiners who are too afraid to call a spade a spade.... Sigh...

I remember when I was in Grade 10. I actually got a detention for drawing that photo of the USSR flag over the Reichstag for a social studies project. Teacher said it was because of "so much hate and violence!"  ::)

I'm so glad those days are over.

You mean a drawing much like this one:

If I have kids I will make sure they know the definition of Facist so when the teacher calls me about some PC bs like this I can ask said teacher to request the definition from my child... I'm sure the look on their face would be priceless.

Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and other societal interests subordinate to the interests of the state. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity through oppression and coercion, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, or racial attributes.

I guess that my son's book report on Star Wars from 3 years ago would not be acceptable today by these standards.

What with Darth Vader representing 'evil' and all the fighting that goes on with their light sabres.  ::) Perhaps he should have just confined his remarks to graphic depictions of how cuddley and adorable the Ewoks looked, and it would be somehow acceptable; it wouldn't reflect the actual story at all, but it would be "acceptable."

God forbid some students first assignment of the year is to write something up on "What I did on my Summer Vacation" only to have the parents watching him be suspended for talking about water gun fights, water ballon fights, shooting balloon targets at the fair, going fishing with their dad and actually killing those caught fish instead of releasing them ... yadda yadda yadda.

Where has the fun gone these days for most of the little boys of the world (and some of the girls too!!)?? No wonder kids are growing up with such huge friggin' complexs ... god forbid they be allowed to do something fun -- let alone talk about it.

Students are not typically allowed to bring weapons to school as part of their Halloween costumes, either.  Makes sense, in some ways, since some of them are pretty realistic looking.  But...

In Kindergarten, my son wanted to be Darth Vader for Halloween.  He had the really cool voice changing mask, and a light sabre that lit up.  Very cool costume.  Then the note came home - no weapons, and no masks either.  I can actually sympathise with the teacher on the mask thing - my son has a hard time walking and not tripping over things when he's NOT wearing a mask.  Things could get chaotic with 20 x 5 year olds tripping over everything in the classroom!  Anyway, I asked about the light sabre, I mean really...You can barely call it a weapon, it's fictional!  So without his light sabre or mask, my kid was just a kid dressed in black with a black cape.  Very original!

In the end he went as Darth Maul.  Last year a very scary, evil looking skeleton, this year Black Spiderman.  Maybe he needs psychiatric counselling - he sure loves pretending to be the bad guys!  >:D

I hear imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Your son is just learning that lesson early? ;D

I bought my daughter a T shirt , in the Gagetown Canex. Had a charging beaver on it all done up in combats, a helmet and a rifle. The T shirt said " Where the hell is Gagetown" or similar. She was at school, all the kids admiring her cool shirt, then the bell rang for class. The teacher got one look at it, yanked her out of the class and made her wear it inside out for the rest of the day. She came home with a letter saying that 'violent and profane' apparel, depicting 'guns and war' were not allowed at the school, and to please ensure I checked my daughter's dress to ensure she wouldn't 'escape' the house wearing such a sordid item again.

I called to inform the school that I had purchased it for her and thought, when she had asked me, that it would be fine if she wore it. The attitude that came through the phone was so chilling, the phone seemed to freeze in my hand ;D. I asked if this was personal, school or board policy. It seemed to have been a judgement call by the teacher, backed by the principal.

We transferred our daughter to another school the following Sept, where she again wore the shirt, with no problem. When asked the reason for the transfer, I sited the hostile attitude of the staff to my chosen profession as a CF soldier "A soldier? In the Army? Transfer approved!!" Guess they were more used to the sheeple parents that wouldn't get up in their face.

The same school board that a couple of years later, requested I come and speak to the students about my tour in Bosnia ::)

And you went, right?  ;)  :threat:

Certainly did. It was a gong show of canned questions from the students, fed to them by the socialist teacher. Every time I gave an answer that shot down their proconceived argument, they looked back to the teacher for guidance. Finally, he stepped up and tried the same old NDP shit. Unfortuneatly for him, my gift of gab was better than his. I'm sure I made more than a few converts. Either way, I was satisfied (and somewhat vindicated) when I left.
