3C and Epaulets

3C - The CF short sleeve worn with the appropriate CF wool sweater over-top, sans ribbons or name-tags, unless you are in the army (name-tag only).

Since the AirForce and Army wear epaulets on the shoulders of their 3Bs, most of my comrades here at the college continue to do so even when the Cf short sleeve is covered by the CF wool sweater. This is so that, just in case, if in class it becomes too hot, they can remove the sweater. Most of our professors, civis and military, don't care if they remove their sweaters and they don't have epaulets on their shoulders.

1. Is it 'technically' permissible to remove ones CF wool sweater when the appropriate name-tag and epaulets are not on the covered short-sleeve?
2. Is it always necessary to wear name tag and epaulets under the wool sweater, "just in case".
3. Is the CF short-sleeve technically expected to be ironed when worn underneath the wool sweater.
4. Finally, if the answer to 2. is yes, is their an exception for naval personnel, who's shoulder boards would look rather odd bulging from underneath the sweater.

1.  No.  You'll look like a fool and then be out of dress for 3B, which is what you've turned it into.  Would you walk around like that in the summer?

I would never walk around without the proper attachments to the short-sleeve, but our military professors ranging from Captains to Colonels have never shown displeasure in our removing our sweater, revealing short-sleeves without name tags or epaulets. Some have even encouraged that we remove or sweaters, in light of how hot it can get in some of the class rooms.

4.  I don't know.  However, I know the Naval folk I work in proximity to (ranging from LS to Cmdre) all wear their long sleeve shirt with tie under their sweater - I've never seen them wear the short sleeve shirt with sweater.

The Navy more so than the other elements do indeed were the long sleeve and tie more often under the sweater, but the majority by far wear simply the short sleeve.

Suggest a bit of a read of the CF Dress Instruction (A-AD-265-000/AG-001) might be in order.  I also suggest you discuss your questions with a knowledgeable Sgt/PO1 or WO/PO2 who will set you straight on how not to look like a bag of idle shyte in front of your troops and educate you on what a "double standard" for officer dress does to morale and respect. 

Will do! Thanks a bunch, just don't get a wrong impression of where I'm coming from. I'm not looking for loop wholes or areas of lax attitude towards deportment, no not at all. I hope to be commissioned soon, and I'm looking for as many areas where I would have to interpret regulations, and enforce them to the satisfaction of my CO's intent, whether that would be a strict interpretation, or a more relaxed one. Just looking how much to give when push comes to shove. I've already experience some of the "double standard" for officers when it comes to drill and discipline....nuff said....

CSA 105 has it exactly correct.

Once you remove the sweater, you have effectively changed from DEU 3c's to DEU 3b; 3b should be worn with the acoutrements applicable to your enviornment and as per the 265. Otherwise ... you are out of dress.

The fact that no-one has said anything about the improper dress -- does not make it proper.

Dude, if you ever find yourself going around enforcing Dress Regs once you receive your Commission to sort people out -- I'd suggest that means you have some Sgts and WOs that require you to sort them out.

While we're on the subject of No. 3C, when wearing the sweater with an open collar, do you iron the front of your collar down or let it fold over the sweater naturally?.

During FYOP we were instructed to iron it down, however, since then I've noticed no-one (well, atleast not a visible portion) actually does this. I don't know what "technically" is required, but it seems that the natural fold is enough. At least around these parts, which may draw some flak.
