5 Aug 2026 - Attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport

This is a bit of an “oh s***” moment for aviation security and critical infrastructure.

Leipzig Airport, Germany. Overnight last night:

• Drone spotted and seized in the secure cargo area near Antonov Airlines. I’ve seen reports it may have been brought down from a hover. The drone was found to be carrying some form of explosives.
• Later, a DHL aircraft on takeoff ascent struck an object midair, flight continued and was found on landing to have nose damage. No further info yet on what it was.
• Counterterrorism police are investigating.

Counter-terror team investigating after DHL plane also collided mid-air with unknown object at Leipzig airport
