A Coy 3 PPCLI being disolved

ArmyRick said:
I am willing to bet, 3VP going down to 2 x Rifle coy is a temporary thing.

This is true. I reconfirm, from what we're told this is NOT A-Coy being dissolved, but rather its deployable troops being reorg'd to make 2 full companies. Those who cannot be deployed wither for being DAG Red or of other reasons will go to A-Coy

I think he meant OP Athena....   ;)

Nope O Coy is correct, The RCR doesn't sequentially letter their Coy'slike the PPCLI, not sure about the VanDoos?.

I was with Mike and Quebec Coy's with 3 RCR in Germany.

I think I used "sequentially" in the wrong context... ::) or i just bastardized the english language once more...

I think the question was directed to the fact that the post mistakenly placed an RCR company in OP Apollo, when it deployed on OP Athena (damn Greek deities).

Question for our bretheren in the regular Regiments..

Can any of you send me a link to the new orbats for a light infamtry company?
Specifically the toe of a support platoon?

Cheers

For the record, the PROPOSED wpns platoons are something the CO came up with, they are not doctirine, from higher or anything else. An officers concept, nothing more. Also, A coy is not being "dissolved" or disbanded. It is being used as an administrative coy for the soon returning members currently on OP ATHENA and pers who are undeployable - for any reason. Hope this clears up some misconceptions.

For the record the PROPOSED wpns platoons have been put forward by the infantry school as proposed doctrine I do believe.   They are also being presented in DLSP and DLFR briefings as one part of the revised ORBAT for Light Infantry Rifle Coys.

Devil

I saw a proposal for the Coy Support Weapons Pl while i was in Bosnia in Feb of last year....but the package didnt follow me home :(

Do you have access to a copy of said proposal?

2VP did the same thing for there last trip to Bosnia going down to 2 Coy.  It was debated whether 3 Coy were needed (when they got back) as we only have enough LAV's for 2.

I believe Devil is right about the Wpns Pl in a Light Coy: it is in fact in the doctrine mill.  IIRC this pl is to offset the relative weakness of the Lt Bn in terms of firepower and to make each Lt Coy more employable and self sufficient. Cheers.

I will wade in here with my comments.  Much of what has been said is accurate, however I hope to dispel some that is not.  3 PPCLI has been tasked to form the nucleus of a two coy 'Light Task Force' as the CF's 'Surge/Strategic Reserve' for Aug 05.  What that means is we have to put two rifle coys and Cbt Sp Coy into high-readiness.  The remaining rifle coy will not be dissolved but it will go into low-readiness, taking into its ranks those soldiers who, for whatever reason, are not deployable at this time, including those who will be shortly returning from Op ATHENA.  The majority of new BIQ recruits will also go to that coy.  Those current coy members who are deployable will be used to bring the other coys up to strength, including finishing the building of a new Recce Pl (the original is currently on ATHENA).

I told the Battalion that I made the decision as to which coys will be part of the high readiness task force based solely on how much of their chain of command will remain intact after summer postings.  It was an easy decision based on that factor, however it is agonizing to rip apart the cohesion of a well trained team. Another symptom of the hollow Army.

New doctrine calls for a weapons platoon in each light company.  We are not their yet, especially in terms of the number of NCOs required.  In our case (yet to be approved) we will have a Weapons Platoon in Cbt Sp Coy (same as DFS less the TOW) who, if all goes as planned, will be equipped with G-Wagon Command and Recce variants on which we can mount C6s and .50 cals.  The 10 man rifle sections are an internal idea (again not yet approved), which will be used to mitigate the effects of tour leave.  As most readers are probably aware, a five or six man rifle section greatly reduces capability.

This re-org is for the strategic reserve task only.  If a deployment comes, hopefully the structures that we form and train will become the basis of the ORBAT.

Thank you for putting the "horses mouth" version up  here, and welcome to army.ca :cdn:

Hey Sir (LCol Eyre),

Welcome to the "on-line jungle"!   There is much goodness here, regretably sprinkled with some occasional  (but ever-diminishing) idiocy.   Stick around, and you will undoubtedly enjoy the "unofficial" discourse with your peers (Dave B and Dave A) along with some of the better known authors within the professional milieu (eg. Sgt A Majoor).  Even we "intellectually-challenged" peons occasionally contribute something meaningful to the proceedings.

All things considered, this is a great place to indulge in professional discourse.   We owe a huge collective thanks to Mike Bobbit for running this site and for giving us an unofficial venue to voice our thoughts.  By all means, please stick around and enjoy.  You will find a very receptive audience for your views, and will encounter an all-ranks/all TOS audience that is only too happy to discuss details.

Once again, it is great to see you here!  Don't be a stranger....

Cheers,

Mark C

Welcome to army.ca, sir. I remember you back in winnipeg around 93-94 or so. Weren't you in Cbt Spt Coy? Cheers.

Wayne:

Great to see a serving CO posting here, you in particular. As Mark has stated, Army.ca is truly a rare and excellent place. It provides a "level playing field" but one that is policed with an intelligent hand, so that marginal life forms do not last long. (OK-I'm still here, but....)

If you have a chance to look through the various threads on this site, you will find a staggering range of discussions, involving every sort of person from retired combat veterans to non-Canadian military to RegF and Res to young cadets, and civilians who have no connection to the military other than a genuine interest. There are a bunch of us Patricia's here, at various rank levels.

Hope you can keep on contributing. Welcome. VP.

Dave B

Cheers

Mark and Dave:

Good to hear from you guys.  Dave A put me onto this thread last Fri via other means.  You are both right regarding the site - lots of good stuff.  I'll try to contribute as time allows.  For Mark, hope to see you out in Edm at some point.  For Dave, best of luck with the rest of the tour.

ArmyRick - that was me.  I was Recce Pl Comd in the 93-95 timeframe.  Were you Cbt Sp as well?

I was in A COY at the time (under Major Kyle and then later Major Creighton)

Having been Coyote 42A in Zgon in 2000 (but enjoyed much hospitality in Drvar!), and Kandahar in 2002, it's going to be sad to sit on the sidelines and miss a possible 3VP tour.  Glad to see they are in such good hands.  All the best.
