A Deeply Fractured US

Just updating, not condemning or agreeing.

FYI

ICE agent who shot Renee Good suffered internal bleeding, officials say.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot Renee Good last week in Minneapolis, Jonathan Ross, suffered internal bleeding to the torso following the incident, according to two U.S. officials briefed on his medical condition.

It was unclear how extensive the bleeding was. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Ross' injury, but has not yet responded to CBS News' requests for more information. This story will be updated as we learn more.

Videos from the scene showed Ross walking away after the incident.

Ross has not returned to work, one source said, but did not say why.

Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security secretary, previously acknowledged that Ross was taken to the hospital after the shooting and was released the same day. She said he was recovering from his injuries, describing him as an experienced law enforcement officer who believed he was defending himself and fellow agents.

"The officer was hit by the vehicle. She hit him. He went to the hospital. A doctor did treat him. He has been released," Noem told reporters on Jan. 7.

Ross, a 10-year law enforcement veteran with ICE, was seriously injured in June in a separate incident in the Minneapolis area when he was dragged by a car during an attempted arrest, requiring 33 stitches and hospital care, court records show.

U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino told CBS News in an interview Sunday that Ross "has had several threats against his life," adding, "he's in a safe location. He's recovering from those injuries, and we're thankful that he's recovering."
I mean regardless of his conduct in the shooting or if he is facing an investigation or not, it would be incredibly irresponsible to put him back on the street in Minnesota given potential threats to his safety.

If, in fact, he was being attacked with a weapon, likely a fair shoot. Unfortunately nothing DHS says at this point can be taken at face value, which is shitty and unfair to any officers who actually may be involved in hazardous situations as described.

As described it sounds like only one officer was on scene at the time of the alleged altercation? But earlier in the narrative it sounds like multiple. It's confusing.

Reading local accounts it sounds like a neighbour with his car full of kids got caught in 'crossfire' and were tear gassed, with medical attention required... No bueno.

Also sounds like an ICE car got ripped to shit by protesters, and various documentation found and pillaged including some identifying information for officers and their hotel accommodations. Basically sounds like an absolute gong show.

ICE/CBP are going to increasingly find that any time they're in small groups they need to REALLY pick their battles. The community has no time for them anymore whatsoever.

His mandate includes mass deportation.

Mass deportation cannot be done by following all the time-consuming expensive processes designed, in part, to make it time-consuming and expensive.

I've written before about the imbalance between what it takes to allow mass illegal immigration (essentially: do nothing to prevent it), and what it takes to undo it. Something had to give. Ideological foes have chosen to fight every battle, to nullify federal law in the states and cities they mostly control, and to go to the mattresses to protect the most unsympathetic (violent, criminal) people illegally in the country. No compromises offered; result: challenge accepted. The status quo of "we can let in 2 million people a year when we have the presidency, and you can only deport a few tens of thousands if you stick to the system during your turn", is untenable.
Yes it can, all it takes is one law and they shall deport themselves voluntarily.

Make it illegal to employ illegal immigrants. Any American found doing so is liable to 5 years in prison (a fine doesn’t dissuade the rich enough).

Poof, the vast majority will leave as with no work there is no way to sustain themselves. No way to sustain themselves means life isn’t better for them in America and as such they won’t migrate there.

The whole reason this problem exists is because Americans love cheap illegal labour. Punish those creating the incentive and the incentive disappears.

I’ve been saying that months a few years now.
Those people go because there are jobs for them. Start putting in prison those that hire them, seize the businesses that hire them and viola, the vast vast majority of the problem goes away.

There are similarities to the fentanyl crisis. They are attacking supply and shrugging shoulders at the demand.

Arresting what would be primarily white Americans in the hiring of illegal immigrants would be a PR nightmare for the WH. They won't do it. Every time they go and hit a construction site, a carwash, a farm to find illegals - they should arresting those in charge of the construction site, those running the car wash and the farm - and then going after the owners and sending them to jail and seizing their assets.

That would be inconvenient.

ICE threw a flashbang into the car. Of the 6 children in the car, one was a 6 month old.

As for the ICE cars, they were allegedly abandoned when people went through them. Interesting challenge coin there.

Text from the post:

This is a screenshot from Mercado Medias Livestream tonight (14JAN2026). Two abandoned ice vehicles were left at the scene of the shooting on 24th and Lyndale and were either left open or opened and the contents inside the vehicles were acquired by protesters. Mercado Media did not participate in this action, nor recorded it in progress, but a protester approached the journalist afterwards and presented several objects reportedly taken from an abandoned bag that ICE agents left open at the scene. The bag also contained several documents containing sensitive information from the agent. (I believe the sensitive information being shown on the steam before this coin is why the Livestream has been taken down either by YouTube or ICE online monitors).

The protestor who gave the coins for Mercado Media to observe reported that these coins were given to ICE agents for significant arrests or feats in the field (unconfirmed). I don't see online an exact replica of this coin, so I can only assume it is ICE specific.

If this is true, it shows ICE is using Nazi adjacent iconography to reward ICE operatives.

Note: for validity, I've added screen shots of the back of the coin, as well as another coin the operative abandoned, and then a booking slip that was found alongside the coins that gives some credence to the skull coin being ice specific. We don't know exactly why the operator had the coins, it could have been for surviving an injury or (less likely) for killing someone on duty.

Renewed the insurrection act threats.

"If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

I don’t know that enforcement needs to distinguish between supply vs demand in a criminal marketing chain so much as between who holds the power vs who is the weak, vulnerable, exploited, or otherwise victimized. Targeting people who are trapped in the cycle will see those people replaced by new “captives “.

Anyway, things in the US have spiralled well past that discussion point. The current deluge of videos showing questionable use of force escalations is going to draw more American citizens into the fray for principals that have nothing to do with illegal labour.

You can open a daycare, transportation company or a adult car facility and make billions.

Worth bearing in mind that there are many instances now of ICE agents grabbing people who have legal status in the U.S. when they attend scheduled routine immigration meetings.

It would be fun and probably enlightening to see stats on how many people have been arrested for removal who have no criminal convictions or allegations against them.

I wonder if there’s decent data yet on what this is doing to economic sectors that typically rely on foreign labour?

I was thinking agriculture, construction, meat processing, stuff like that. But yes, the monied class may be directly affected too.
