Martin & Pratt make statements about the current condition of major projects and the upcoming budgets. All's on hold with basically everything and health care at the forefront. And an nice exception. The Sea King replacement is going ahead with speed. Nice to see. May be a sign of things to come.

Opinions?

I‘m going to wait and see. They want to cut from most departments, so DND could still be hit. Martin might give DND the new helicopters. but take away something else. He looks good replacing the seakings... but he‘s one who cut the department before.

Their (Martin & Pratt) carrot is long. But what about the stick?.Is it big, or is it the normal twig that we see from the goverment past & present?

Reading the National Post this morning it said the PM is freezing the procurement plans for the 741 G-Wagens and the Strykers. But the $3B replacement for the Sea King is not being frozen.

edit:
Here‘s the excerpt from the article
The $600-million purchase of eight-wheel Stryker vehicles and hundreds of millions of dollars for 741 G-Wagen jeeps for the Armed Forces have also been frozen, as has $500-million in renovations to federal buildings across the country.

The capital freeze will not apply to the long-awaited $3-billion purchase of new helicopters for the military, Mr. Martin said.

They froze the G-Wagens? ****, Milverado‘s are apparently already in the vehicle compound in Meaford though. Nice shiney new trucks no one is qualified on. Though its just a pickup truck in green paint so I don‘t know what the big deal is.

We had a milverado in our garage‘s last week, it really is basically just a big pickup painted green, and I‘m not sure but I swore I could see the original paint job underneath.

The freezes are temporary until Martin sorts out the budget, I suppose before the start of the fiscal year. Don‘t blame him - if it means getting rid of Jane Stewart-like bungling in the next four months, and frees up more funds for us, so much the better. And worth the wait.

Mike let‘s hope they clear out the Puzzle Palace of all that dead weight also!

Oh the latest is there is a new Heavy Equipment Sqn(Militia Engineer) going into the Old Base Maintenance Building in Chilliwack. Also word is the Reg.Force will be positioning equipment there for training as the Army still own‘s the Op.C. area in the Wack. and has no all wheather training area in the Country and the Wack can offer all condition‘s in winter here on the West Coast.

Do I hear a Reg.Eng.Sqn coming back?
I hope so!!
