Alberta government thread

...and 4 more recall petitions to the pile.

...and 4 more recall petitions to the pile.

I feel like this is the NDP trying to subvert our election schedule and weasel their way back into power.

There is absolutely no way that private citizens have the time to educate themselves about the recall process, are doing the paperwork, and going out to collect thousands of signatures each by themselves.

I just don't see it happening, personally.

...

To me, it's frustrating as hell.

We have a provincial election every 4 years, just like every other province in Canada.

Have some great ideas you think the citizens will absolutely love?? Tell us about them during the next election!! I'm open to hearing ideas and auggestions from anybody

But to try to subvert the government and take it down by recalling all of it's fairly elected MLA's before election time is dirty, and quite frankly undemocratic - which is why the NDP lost the last election in the first place.

Nenshi just wants to be Premier, and he wants to be Premier NOW - even though the voters voted someone else in. His quest for power is growing more & more impatient.

If he wants any chance in hell of getting votes from outside of Calgary, he would cut this shit and run a good campaign during the next election - like what people are supposed to do

All this petty, dirty mischief behind the scenes is frustrating, annoying, and honestly concerning.

If he isn't willing to respect some very basic democratic principals before he runs the province, that doesn't reassure me he will respect basic democratic principals once elected.

My grumpy 2 cents anyway 🍻

Message to the UCP who started this goat rodeo....play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Don't blame the NDP for what the UCP did to themselves.

I’ve mentioned this in another thread about the pitfalls of direct democracy.

We are watching the gong show results in live action…

I'll be honest, I'll have to do some basic research on the history of MLA recall petitions for in Alberta

Because I honestly don't have a flipping clue about who started what.

If it was the UCP who pulled this crap firsr, then I suppose fair enough.

(Politics is soooooooo much dirtier than I ever realized growing up. Even as an adult, I have learned to not be surprised by much anymore when it comes to how dense & broad the cesspool/swamp really is...*

The UCP passed the bill creating these recall petitions, and it was within the past couple years.

Even if one goes all the way through, it would essentially trigger a referendum byelection to affirm or reject the recall. It would take a majority of voters to recall the sitting MLA. To that extent, it’s still democratic.

By and large it’s theatrics.

So is the 1 NDP MLA facing recall theatrics too? Is the UCP behind it if the NDP is behind all the other ones?

I think you grossly underestimate the political engagement of people in AB with jumping on the unproven assumption that this is being done by the NDP, AFL or anyone else.

At the end of the day this is democracy still and many of these ridings need 16000 signatures to trigger the recall process. Will you still call it a NDP plot if the majority of a riding wants to recall?

List of banned names going forward for political parties going forward. They seem to ban just about every existing mainstream naming convention. I feel this would get challenged in court.

If the pinheads that brought in recall bothered to look at the goat-rodeos recall campaigns in B.C. became, the would never have brought the legislation in in the first place.

Those pinheads wrongfully thought that everyone must be on their side…

Seperatists are rarely grounded in reality because reality flies in the face of their world view and goals.
