All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

Immigration from the eastern Liberal bastions of Canada ?

Kind of like how those fleeing California are txing Montana and Texas into the same mess they are running from.

Hard to say. I'm not sure what the demographics are of those coming to Alberta from other provinces... If it is younger people looking for work that could mean something very different than retirees.

But I was thinking that 47% may have increased since 2023 with the way everything else has increased (separation sentiment etc). The election of PMMC may have paused this rise or caused it to dip a bit... but based on what we've seen so far (ICE ban, flip/flop on energy) I guess that pause/dip will only be temporary.

Possible. My take is that two years ago Trudeau was still leading the country. I am certain he was a catalyst for a lot of that sentiment. When push comes to shove though, people are a bit skittish when it comes to their money and risk. Don’t break what isn’t broken.

Also, it’s possible that people didn’t belive the initial estimates Alberta was putting forward.

But yeah, demographics may play a part in that.

When I think of people I know...some of them in uniform....attitudes have changed. From high school drop out oil patch rig workers to very educated professionals there has been a change in last 10 years.

They are incredibly proud of the country...most of them have come from other parts of Canada and/or USA due to the opportunities Alberta offered our parents and/or own families. But the last 10 years has changed attitudes in a manner it's tough to describe...some of the most patriotic people I know were questioning the value of Canada due to the Federal Gov't actions.

Even myself...a red conservative/blue liberal...felt a bunch of that 20 years ago. There is a huge East/West divide in the country frankly split across Northern Ontario. Always felt welcome in Northern Ontario but for the folks from S. Ontario (own extended family included) there is a severe disconnect on what life is like outside the Golden horse shoe and south shore of Quebec. Maritimer's get along with Albertans well because...well...so many of them are out here it's more like family reunions.

But despite the frustration there is also a simple desire...let me go to work, let me pay my bills, and quit micro-managing every aspect of my life and calling me evil because I work hard to support my family....especially when it is to buy votes in another part of the country.

A more positive tone, less vote buying in Central Canada at the cost of the west, and removal of some of the micro-managing aspects of Federal Policy/Legislation will help a ton.

Frankly if I was the Federal gov't I'd start with the MB Premier's list of nation-building infrastructure...a positive, mature response, directed at national benefit...and then look what can be done. It's a much better starting point than the AB Premier's whining list of change all legislation but does address some of the same concerns...and while shovels are digging then start to consider the more difficult piece of legislation change to be fairer across the country.
A common theme I'm seeing across the political spectrum beyond the crazies on the fringes is that Wab Kinew is impressing people almost universally. Its been interesting to watch as a Manitoban. Normally the only time an Albertan is talking about us is to shit on us.

Saying past wasn't 100% is quite the understatement. A history like this would normally make political life impossible. But he is educated and winning his riding handily. People are clearly willing to overlook his past... this is interesting.

Curious, was there a concerted round-the-clock media campaign highlighting his faults?
Yes there was. The provincial Tories posted it everywhere but Stephenson was so incompetent and Manitobans were willing to give him a chance. So far, its paying dividends provincially. We are pragmatic folk here and we distrust dirty politics. Hence why the Tory smear stuff went over like a lead balloon. Its also important to note he basically embodies the Manitoba story. He's part indigenous, part European. I believe he is the first "Métis" (technically not but I digress) Premier since John Norquay in the homeland of the Métis. It certainly resonated here.

didn't read the article eh? as per the article support for creating an APP was only 10%, also your math is wrong as 47 + 63 is 110.
Pile on... I skimmed it, didn't math, made an incorrect assumption. :D whatever.

With Kinew at the helm Manitoba is set up quite well for a while, they just need to get of front bumper license plates. They already have an NHL team and the cost of housing is still decent, relatively speaking.

I wonder if, with some of the ongoing financial scandal, more Albertans might be looking at the CPP vs APP option and deciding that in the balance they don’t want a chunk of their retirement savings subject to unproven provincial control? CPP is safe as hell and stable; that’s a reassurance to most.
