All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

My fear here is that a Separation Referendum is not being done in good faith. It is being done under outsider influence, to get enough of a result to give certain elements south of the border a reason to intervene.

There is danger, here.
U.S. is never impossible, but when you phrase it that way, more than one other country with a track record of sowing division (often from all sides) could be rubbing their hands gleefully at the potential for interference.

Then again, like freedom fighters, interference can sometimes be in the eye of the beholder, depending on how much the beholder likes the cut of the interferer’s jib.

Not letting them have the referendum or meddling with the question they want will only harden their feelings toward Ottawa, more than it already has. Not only that but it'll also be seen as discriminatory in that Quebec was able to extract 'That this House recognize that the Québécois form a nation within a united Canada' status, but Alberta can't. Which only cements in the minds of the rest of Canada that Quebec has special status than the rest of Canada somehow. And of course we know how that'll be interpreted by the Quebecois. They'll just double down on their perceived special status and ask Ottawa for more.

Nobody’s stopping them from having a referendum, and the referral of the question to court to assess the constitutionality is pursuant to their own provincial law recently passed by Smith’s government. There‘s no actor outside of Alberta to be blamed for their own chosen process.

The current regime would not be above the Russian tactic of “little green men” or “not-American Soldiers” … hell, the current regime may not even care to pursue the implausible deniability that Russia pretended.

An American talking head is musing about invading Alberto, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. (His words, not mine)
