All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

Your only source is a UCP video? Yeah seems like an unbiased source lol. Surely the struggles of the oil and gas industry couldnt have been a result of oil dropping from 110 to 30 a barrel in 2015 right?
I mean if you reference those clips and look for yourself you can find the fact that she was clearly anti oil and gas. That changed when she realized what actually funds the province.
The fact she was a major part of the uncertainty over the TransMountain which was fully privately funded and had already been started in phases.
To end up supporting the governments buying of the line and project at a substantially crippling cost.
But when we ignore it all and say they were a supporter. Wow short memories and even stout support.

And ABs royalties dropping to just 2.2 billion the first year she was in office.
I would not put that on the NDP...the chart below is West Texas Intermediate oil prices in USD. In fact I do give them credit for trying to balance out the dependence on oil prices by changing tax rates and other factors.

But trying to do it all during a crash is a double whammy...and then it was compounded further by the federal decisions. In summery....good intentions but a bad time due to international oil pressures and then really weird confusions for frankly...every business in Canada.

Wasn't putting that on the NDP at all, I was pointing out part of the situation dealt to them

Dont worry about the provincial NDP

The UCP has made their job remarkably easy going forward.

What are your policies? Federalism.

What is your tax plan? Federalism.

Why should anyone vote for you? Federalism.

How do you plan to fix health care? Federalism.

This is how the QLP was able to get by and still gets by, for generations.

Doubly so if the UCP splits apart into separatist and federalist parties.

The exact thing that played out in the 90's, but in Quebec.

Kenney of 2026 may be having some buyers remorse over the actions (merger with Wildrose) of Kenney 2018.

Clips is exactly right. Its a campaign add of cobbled together snippets. It is by its definition biased, editorialized, and designed to influence. You want me to look for myself but provided no other sources. You made the claim, you provide the reference.

People forget the NDP was elected because of a 5 billion deficit and ended up with an oil crash in an Province that had so favoured to the oil and gas industry that they had no reserve for when royalties fell.

Kenney is the architect of all this.

He may go around playing the good and loyal Canadian Albertan now, but so opposed was he to the NDP ever holding power that he brought the wolves into the henhouse to prevent it.

And now that the wolves have taken over and run amuck, including getting him canned, he runs around waving the maple leaf.

Good job bud.

Those clips reference to her anti oil in Alberta. You can look from there, obviously you would rather pound your own drum to your own opinions. You can also add the anti coal program also. To which she magically approved exploratory drilling out west along the foot hills for the coal mines. Then when it all went public stated just because we approved the exploratory aspect does not mean we will allow the actual mine to go forward. That resulted in the Australian company suing for damages.
Funny I couldn't figure out what oil and gas company was paying to upgrade the Forestry Truck road west of Rocky Mountain House. Until I talked to one of the Gravel haulers, who stated it was for all the logging in the area in preparation for the mine exploration.

Wrong they got voted in because people were sick of what Stelmach and Redford had done. Then Smith put the nail in the coffin for the Conservative party. The two intern Premiers were just that interim.

Wrong, the province was still doing fine. The fact that the uncertainty caused by Notley's flip flop and Trudeaus garbage policies had companies pull back investment money along with continuing operations here until both provincial and federal government would play ball again.

But in a Wednesday radio interview Premier Smith told QR Calgary and 880 CHED that when it comes to the United Conservatives, her word is the last word, and the party's official position is that it wants Alberta to stay in Confederation.

I was of the impression that the UCP, and particularly the Wildrose Party element before that, prided itself on being a "grassroots" organization rather than following a top down leader-centric model.

The party issued a new statement Wednesday after the premier spoke, saying it supports Alberta staying in Canada, adding it has always supported Alberta staying in Canada.

"The position of our party, the UCP caucus and the UCP government is that we believe in a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada. That is the position our party has taken from the very beginning. It's in our founding principles," it said.

Where does it say that? (sarcasm)

In the interest of fair discussion, the UCP's Member Policy Declaration does include this line that does mention "Confederation".
e. Continue to distance itself from the federal government in as many facets as possible as a productive member of Confederation. Furthermore, any right given to another province should be a right given to Alberta.
But most of the 25 references to "federal" within that document deal with intent to either oppose or not implement federal policies or initiatives.

.2 FEDERAL
The United Conservative Party believes that the Government of Alberta should...

a. Oppose intrusions by the federal government into the property, legal, constitutional and democratic rights of Albertans. To that end, Alberta should hold a referendum to obtain approval from Alberta residents, for the Alberta government to demand and negotiate changes to the wording of the Canadian Constitution under Section 121 to grant Alberta a constitutional right to freely export its resources, products and services across other provinces and outside of Canada’s borders, without restrictions;

b. Advocate for senate reform. The UCP supports having a provincial review on senate reform to balance the current imbalance in the senate. The review should consider all options and the UCP should support a future constitutional amendment on senate reform, with thesenatorial selection process to be the dominion of each province.

c. Commit to working with the federal government to develop one- window regulatory approval processes to minimize regulatory delays and burdens imposed on projects, particularly regarding critical infrastructure.

d. Advocate to the federal government to collect carbon taxes on imported goods from foreign countries that do not have equivalent carbon tax/pricing schemes.

e. Continue to distance itself from the federal government in as many facets as possible as a productive member of Confederation. Furthermore, any right given to another province should be a right given to Alberta.

f. Provide intergovernmental advocacy to ensure that lab grown meat will not be sold in Alberta without proper identification and clear labelling.

g. Provide intergovernmental advocacy to ensure that mRNA products are not being injected into our livestock or food sources in Alberta.

Seems like a bit of a power struggle. Having declared herself a committed federalist, and being herself inextricable from the UCP, she must pull the UCP to committed federalist or she’s done. A UCP that fragments on the separatism question probably withers and dies as a governing party.

yet the grassroots are separatist.

A house divided...
