All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

Then why post what you posted then?

Its an opinion. Like every other. I simply don't feel the need to go through it all again. I haven't changed my position and I don't suspect others have.

I think what we are witnessing to a certain extent is actually term you taught me tyranny of the majority. I am of the belief some form of electoral change or redistribution seats will help correct that.

Its all been talked to death on here.

I am actually a bit more concerned then I was 6 months ago, people who I know that were left leaning are getting behind this movement a little more and more every day. Not a good situation in my opinion.
I have been saying lets fix the issues and concerns before stupid actions cause bad damage across the board.

I've heard the new target for this petition is now one million signatures which suggests they have blown past or expect to blow past the 170,000 required. I don't know if that is accurate but if it's close to accurate it will be a big problem for the remain side.

Electoral change absolutely no argument there, I'm all for exploring that. But giving land more say in the running of this country than actual breathing Canadians no thank you, we can see where that leads just by looking next door.

They should use some sort of points system based on population and geographic size.

Let me go check quickly, which is the biggest province....
Do the Maritimes while you're at it.

Care to share the source? Because 'Stay Free Alberta' struggles just to reach 170,000 compared to how quickly 'Forever Canadian' collected it's 456,000 signatures, there's a reason why Smith keeps lowering the bar for them.

EDIT: Added clarification.

Source - Western Standard, Breitbart, CIA Info Ops Daily?

To protect us from a tyranny of the majority, we should have a EEE senate. Trying to wedge popular representation with provincial representation in the same body just makes a bastardized ineffectual body we have now.

170k is a low bar, it wont be super hard for them to each that many in rural AB alone. The issue comes a referendum where they gotta convince the majority of voters in the GCA and GEA to vote to leave. Investment uncertainty is already hitting calgary, people see the damage separation talk is starting to cause, thats what will drive a no vote

In some way, when I am feeling extremely cruel, I want them to hold this referendum.

Because the capital flight, the exodus of those who want to remain Canadians will be epic. Quebec more or less supercharged the growth of Ontario with their referendums. I don't know who the beneficiary would be from a Alberta exodus, but I know the biggest loser by far will be Alberta.

Quebec was able to withstand that due to the Francophone cultural ties to the region, and the lack of french anywhere else. Alberta has no such monopoly on culture or language.

My MIL works for PTAC, and they might be done for within 2 years if investment dries up

Yeah, Alberta is pointing a gun at their own foot and telling the ROC to stop them before it's too late.

Which, I mean, as a decent person, one should try to do, but on the other hand, darwin.

MB and SK would benefit greatly imo.

I was thinking of those two, but wasn't sure if BC wouldn't be the net beneficiary.

No, with this government they would find a way to shoot themselves in the foot and send people fleeing into the new Territory of Northwest Trumpistan…🤣
