A 59-year-old man who was assaulted while supervising the distribution of Remembrance Day poppies by Air Cadets at a Hamilton mall over the weekend remains unable to walk and faces an “uncertain” long-term recovery, according to a statement from his family.

Yes, he's covered much the same way that a class A primary reservist is covered, "while employed in sanctioned events."

As a CIC Officer on official business I would assume yes, but this could turn out to be a very public test of the system. Once out of rehah, he might have to step down as CIC, at which point VAC takes over....

The bad side of this is if the CIC Officer followed the aggressors into a restaurant then he may be in the wrong for doing that.

We will have to see how this all plays out. Let's hope Mr Kunkel has a full recovery.
Such a terrible situation for the Cadets and Officer involved.
