Hello. I've done some reading on the M113-Stryker debate, but I'm really unsure as to how much upgraded M113s would actually weigh. I was wondering if you people might know the weight of a few components.
Add on armour -I've heard the Canadian military uses Titanium Armour Appliques, but I don't know how much these weight or how much protection they provide. I've heard that some M113 add on armour can provide protection against RPGs and 30mm autocannon fire, but is the add on armour our military uses capable of doing this?
(Note: I think a lot of the M113s in Canada have been stretched. If possible, I'd like to know what the weight for add on armour for both stretched and unstretched M113s.)
One man light turrets (the twin gun kind) -how much do these weigh sans guns (overall weight will vary depending on what you stick in them). Also, it seems if the main part of the vehicle were to be armoured against RPGS, RPG resistant armour for the turret might be useful too. How much would this weigh aproximately? Also, any idea how much weight beefing up the turret movement systems would add? Seems extra armour and pylon mounted weapons (if mounted) could slow down the turret or strain the systems used to turn it.
Related note: How much of the interior space would such a turret's systems take up? How much would you be reducing troop carrying capacity?
Band Tracks -these supposedly weight less than steel tracks, but how much less?
A couple other questions I wonder about: How much do stretched M113s and those sort of flatbed cargo carrier variants weigh (preferably unloaded with the cargo carrier...)
Are there any components on an M113 which could be replaced with lighter weight components for a fairly low price? How much weight would these modifications save?
