Some of you might be familiar with the video game Arma 3 (http://www.arma3.com/)

Apparently there is a Canadian Forces mod being developped.

See link:

Anyone care to comment on the accuracy and exactitude with which they are developping this mod?

Interesting, but the pictures right now don't have the right "feel". The TW cadpat looks close enough, but the gear itself seems way off for standard issue. The Arid cadpat ins't dark enough and lack the pink pigment.

I've been considering Arma III and would buy it if I had access to a good Canadian mod.

Agreed. The gear does seem a little off, the helmet just doesn't seem right to me (CG634?).

I Play with Ohally and some of the other developers of this mod (Search for 1CPB, our youtube channel just went up) They are well aware of these minor details, however at this point they are considering it close enough while they worry about major bugs and getting content such as the LAVIII into the mod.

Arma 3 is definitely worth the buy, even if there were no CF mod. I've sunk shameless number of hours into it. Here's a showcase for the mod done by someone who's in the CF, really showing off the content, and the pros and cons:

I think the mod looks pretty good, however, unless you have people you regularly play with, you probably won't get much use out of the mod.

I bought ARMA 3 when it was in Alpha, simply because the price is good.  Has the game balanced out well enough to enjoy? And is the online community worthwhile as well? Unfortunately, don't think my laptop will pump out the graphics levels I'd want!

I got it back in alpha as well, and I've enjoyed it the whole time... if you haven't played since alpha then you probably haven't used any of the new features such as sniper rifles, the third faction (Independent/AAF), more helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, tanks, etc. You should definitely check it out. The online community is pretty good too. A lot of people play Altis Life (a community-created game mode) or Breaking Point (An Arma 3 version of DayZ made by a different team, who have expanded on it and, in my opinion, have a better game than the official DayZ), but you can also find death match game modes, or whatever else, without much issue.

That about sums up the extent of my experience with it ;) I played Arma 2 a _LOT_ and knew a number of individuals that would get together and play scenarios.  Was very enjoyable.  I've never gotten into DayZ and am not sure if I want to, but I will definitely check out Arma 3 again.  Like I said though, not sure my laptop is up to the challenge at full graphics.  I guess it's time to get a new computer... heck, with Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen on the horizon, it'll be worth it ;)

Arma 3 has TrackIR support, correct?

Yes, it does. I've heard it's good, but I've never seen it myself.

The Canada milsim clan 7th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (7CMBG) maintains their own game mode Operation NorthStar (ONS). The arma clan web site is http://7cmbg.com for anyone who is interested in organized military simulation using Canadian equipment. The group has quite a few active and veteran armed forces members.

If you're looking to recreate the equipment of the military in Canada, you may want to consider joining an Arma 3 clan such as 7CMBG that can offer you the immersion that only a Canadian MilSim unit can provide. You won't get to ride in a CH-146 Griffon on Altis life! This video they had posted on YouTube shows off some of the older equipment and they are yet to release a complete rework of all the uniforms and gear this month in their Operation NorthStar game mod.

The Arma 3 CAF mod is quite good, however it's lack of updating is seen in some parts of the mod. However, the worst part of this seems to be the lack of servers or MilSim groups that support this mod.

Love this mod. Hotfix for 1.7 did a lot to help the feel though. Played a few times with it.
