Australian navy's hunt for new sub to replace Collins class

It is not 3 Subs.
It's 3 Virginian Class SSN with an option for 2 more, PLUS 5 SSN-AUKUS, eventually working out to 8 of the AUKUS Class SSN and the Virginia's retired (or sold to someone else who likes older Subs, maybe in 2060 it will be Canada...)
From the afterlife I'm going to find a way to super necropost this as it probably comes to fruition 😅😐😕🤦‍♂️

Still a heavy sticker shock to the Sustrakiaj taxpayer, no doubt
Yes autocorrect (that literally just took the correctly spelled word of autocorrect & turned it into autocracy...)

Clearly when my fat fingers typed Austrralia, what I really meant to say was Sustrakiaj...ffs...

Here's something else you'll never see in Canada
- Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said the Coalition would support the submarine deal "come hell or high water".-
I think it's more self-serving than having a united front on Defence.

AUKUS was announced on 15 Sep 2021, and the latest Australian election (where the two main parties switched) was in May 2022. Peter Dutton was the Defence Minister until the 2022 election, then became Opposition Leader.

So, when AUKUS was signed, he was Defence Minister. Not saying that folks don't do a 180 when the other party wins, but there would be no shortage of memes if he didn't maintain support for AUKUS, regardless whether his party formed govt or not.

Also, Australia can’t ride American coattails near as good as Canada since they’re closer to China than the US.

HAHAHHAHA surely you jest....Canada with NUCLEAR submarines??? NBL - Not Bloody Likely
Well, the alternative to nuclear is the even more evil diesel fuel — and Canada, unlike Australia, already has a domestic nuclear power industry and wouldn’t be starting entirely from scratch.

Nuclear power is the future — it’s a pity not everyone sees it that way.

Australia has had an ongoing nuclear reactor program since the 1950s, though, focussed on "research" and production of isotopes for medical and industrial usage. Sure, that is a very different scenario to submarine propulsion, but then so is electricity production for homes and industry.
