British Military Current Events

I’m not sure if the British MoD can demand that GD deliver a working functional vehicle (apparently that wasn’t specified in the contract), so here is their defence Minister floating the idea of scrapping the Ajax vehicle instead. The numbers here are low, maybe 6-700. I have to wonder if they’ll just go back and refurbish Warrior again as an urgent interim.

Or they could do what we should have done with the TAPV.
Kill all the mods and strip the project back to the parent vehicle.
At least for all the hulls already built.
Even if they were reduced to turretless APCs for reserve or logistics roles.

Go get 'em, boys!

UK and Norway form naval alliance to hunt Russian submarines

The UK and Norway have signed a defence pact that will see them operate a combined fleet to hunt Russian submarines in the North Atlantic.

The deal is designed to protect undersea cables - which British officials say are increasingly under threat from Moscow, with a 30% rise in Russian vessels spotted in UK waters over the past two years, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Under the agreement, the navies from the two Nato members will operate a fleet of British-built Type-26 frigates.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the agreement "historic", saying it strengthened the UK's ability to protect critical infrastructure.

As per the SOP. A war will happen, we (the west) will get tuned up at the start. Then the giant that is our economy, leadership, and production will finally come back to life and we will shed the stupidity that demands too much of our time these days and we will win.

And the war will end and we will begin the cycle a new.

The sad part is if we didn’t have the stupidity before hand, we would win that war a lot sooner.

please keep anon mate. I served as a REME inspector on the Ajax acceptance and testing team, where my primary role was to inspect all variants of the Ajax vehicles at Merthyr Tydfil in partnership with General Dynamics. Unfortunately, the vehicles consistently arrived in a poor state, and our inspections uncovered a long list of serious faults. Over 150 faults is accurate, and if anything is slightly an understatement. There are many usage limits on the platform, many of which get disregarded by CoC in order to "test" the vehicles to a standard required to meet IOC. How can a vehicle with usage limitations be classed as IOC is beyond my understanding.. The culture was always to just pass the vehicles regardless of what faults were found. We would have a very strict standard, and we would inspect and fail to that standard. Return to work on the following Monday and suddenly that standard has gone from the document and we are advised to use our judgement rather than a set criteria. I am ashamed of my time there, as I honestly felt that I could have done more to stop it. On top of that I have to live with a guilt that I was once a part of the cogs that was trying to bring this platform into service, and I failed at persuading the CoC to follow through on safety concerns.
I really hope they cancel the project. Maybe then I will have a good night sleep thats not haunted by ajax..

So it isn't just GOFOs and MPs that go along to get along.....

I suspect with the Ajax that they could scrap the hull and reuse the turret, tracks, drivetrain and sensors in another newly designed hull?

FYB is slaughtering GD and the MoD defence team over this Ajax object of negligence and apparently reckless indifference. I think they are going to scrap the thing and burn the plant down.

The only question is when will Canada buy what’s been delivered thus far for a sweet heart deal. Are we at 2% yet or is there still room for a deal lol…

Of course, blame the troops. That should fix everything ;)

A senior employee of General Dynamics UK has posted comments on social media suggesting that crews bear responsibility for several problems associated with the British Army’s Ajax armoured vehicle.

The remarks were made on the widely followed FillYourBoots Facebook page during a discussion about ongoing issues affecting the programme.

Have you been reading Hamish Bretton Gordon again?

He suggested just keeping the turret and dumping on to some Rheinmetall gear, presumably the Lynx. Or at least force GDLS to get their sh*t together on their own dime.

Latvia went the other route. They stripped back to the 26 tonne ASCOD that has worked for Austria and Spain for the last decade ( they should have called it the Lippizaner). They also stripped off the metal tracks and substituted Soucy rubber tracks from Canada.

I was also thinking that the US could lease/sell cheaply all the Bookers they have to the UK to flesh out their armoured forces, till they can be replaced with a modern MBT.

No, there are serious problems with the 40mm including jams in the tray, barrel stabilization, screens and monitors falling of brackets, defective fume extraction and bolts simply falling out when firing. Theres also some other malfunction that requires the crew to dismount and wait 30 minutes before clearing.

I’ll put money they are going to start overhauling the few remaining Warrior again.
