C7/C8 accessories recommendations

I've been thinking of buying some personal accessories I can quickly attach to an issued rifle, namely a Magpul angled foregrip and Streamlight TacPro weapon light with tape switch.

I won't bother with IR, since it requires NVGs to use and I would be issued a PEQ-2 if I have an operational need for one anyway, or holographics since we have EOTechs in the system (not that I see myself needing to use a different optic any time soon). I also don't see the point to bringing my own pistol accessories, since the new holsters don't accept a pistol light.

Any recommendations, or should I just stick with the issued vertical foregrip, or anyone have their own setup they want to share.

I’m a big fan of the Magpul AFG and ran one myself when I was in, FWIW. Much more natural hand positioning. A tape switch for a light is also a great add.

The AFG or AFG 2? I'm deciding between those two, and True North Arms has the AFG (top) for $3 less. It looks almost like I can mount the tape switch on the side of the grip, which would make things a little easier.

Over anything else for upgrading an issue C7 quickly after drawing it without major disassembly I would add a good modern sling and mounts.

Something like this for the buffer tube.

Something like this for the tri mount

It seems like the HP-X Pro is the best option, and RDSC has the best price. It has 800 lumens, but 105,000 candela and 648m beam distance. The other HP has 2,000 lumens but only 17,000 candela and a 266m distance, and the HL-X is 1,000 lumens, 50,000 candela and 447m distance, which apparently mean they're both dimmer than the HP-X.

Sling: 2pt adjustable I’m biased to the BlueForce Gear Vickers for most rifles/carbines, and run padded on heavier guns, while the thin for lighter ones, and as a neck loop for CQB stuff.

There is a thing called too much light, but that is generally for interior work, if your in areas that have a lot of gloss light colored walls.
For a .mil long gun you don’t need a massive white light, as any significant distance searching should be with a passive NOD (thermal or II). For weapon lights I run SureFire, but I have a ton of them, so I’ve never needed to look at anything else.

Personally I’d throw the TRIAD pitchfork as far away as possible and get a drop in Rail, or drop on MLoK handguard. The new C8’s are coming with MLoK handguards - so keep that in mind for any accessories.

I’ve never liked the Magpul AFG, but angles and shapes are individual as to what is or isn’t comfortable for your shooting style.
On a CQB gun, I want something that I can get a few fingers on to hold for weapon retention, which can be a stubby grip or post style hand/finger stop, while for a green side field gun it isn’t as important, so a more angled grip is fine.

Also some units are much more flexible with what they will let you do than others.
Some will accept anything that doesn’t involve cutting metal / while others will freak out with adding a non issue BIS.

I've seen that in training. Guys with aftermarket spotlights (essentially) on their rifles that just blind everyone including themselves.

I wouldn't be impressed with my fire team partner illuminating the battlefield with their rifle, seems like it would bring unwanted attention.

Same here. The AFG angle just feels off for me. I can get the same effect with a short stubby grip and have better retention/control. For longer shooting I still grip the magazine housing which makes people really upset.

The Streamlight does have a low setting for that reason. They are made overseas, but have a good reputation, far better than Olight.

Should I just pony up and go with a SureFire Scout?

I get my SF lights for free, so I am a bad guy to ask. The retail price seems outrageous though.

Both Streamlight and Cloud Defense lights have gotten a lot better over the years.

I’m guessing the CA doesn’t issue the SF legacy 6 and 9P lights with new in the box broken tailcap wire pressure switches anymore? ;)

The cheapest I can find is $465.

And $142 for a tape switch.

Ha. "Issue".

Ouch.

I don’t really like the SF tape switches
The only SF pressure switch I liked was the one that was for the PEQ-15 and Scout Light plug in. It clipped into the rail and was robust material.

The Unity Tactical buttons are pretty nice - but pricey if you don’t have a unit order

Ha. "Issue".
They did used to get issued. But they didn’t last long. Not only were the bulbs fragile, but the tape switch polymer was awful and cracked through easily - especially in the Afghan sun.
