Plus staff and budget cuts to the Department of the Interior and National Park Service. DOI are the folks who fight forest fires on federal lands.

At the risk of being pedantic, the main wildfire suppression force on federal land in the US is with the US Forest Service which is part of the USDA. The NPS and BLM with the DoI also have significant wildfire suppression crews though.

But yes, not a good move to cut federal resources responsible for public forest and land management, and wildfire suppression. Kinda like what happens when the CDC is cut in the health realm.
