Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

This line has got me thinking. Sorry.😁.

What if...

What if every Reserve/Militia unit had an individual tasked to manage walk-ins and referals from recruiting centres.

Welcome the individual.
Put them into costume (this is role play, not soldiering)
Tour the facility.
Audit a class.
Get a briefing on one of the many unclas subjects,
Get a presentation on structure, history and on current ops that would be updated weekly.
Take them to the mess.
Invite them back next week.

Which is kind of like what the units do now.

Units aren’t struggling to recruit. Some are but they struggle to train.

Could CADTC do better in terms of producing a programme geared towards creating a programme optimized for the Class A timetable?

Don't try and turn out Infanteers and Operators necessarily. Just produce people willing and able that can be turned into Infanteers, Operators etc.

Can they hire retired vets. on contract, not affecting their pensions, to man the desks?
The problem with hiring vets for this stuff is our bias where we inject our personal feelings on who should be allowed to serve (or recieve benefits in the case of VAC) against standard hiring practices.

Imagine the retired RCR MWO who "just knows" when someone looks like trouble.

One of the issues a buddy stuck in recruiting told me is that they lose a bunch of applicants because they won't accept that they won't be guaranteed a posting to a big city like Toronto or Montreal.

I know, it's reaching back to the 70s, but that was part of what we did as RSS. There were Class A recruiting folks in the regiment on Tuesday and Thursday nights, but walk-ins came at any time during the day when only the RSS were there. We handled them. It was part of the job; answer questions, fill out applications and then hand them off to the Class A recruiters to process them.

I have an easy answer for that: Two classes of regular force service with separate terms of service but a common requirement for a) serve out your term, and b) deployment is not optional; its a job requirement (Non of this Class B shirking)

🍻

Send them to the Reserves them. And offer them a career on an IAMD unit. 😇
