I think the answer is in expanding MFRC capabilities.

The challenge is getting workers, I understand that my local MFRC had to close down its daycare for lack of workers.

I don’t know of any daycare that offers a school bus service. But it’s been a while since I had to deal with daycare.

Plenty of them offer after school care and with that comes pickup from the bus stop in the area.

It’s a matter of will to make a solution happen. Not saying it is easy or instant, I suspect it would actually be quite difficult.

Everyone is happy sticking their heads in the sand and pretending there isn’t a problem. We have done it so long that it is now reaching critical levels. This applies to all levels of society (the trades, health care, housing, child care, etc.).

Child care is critical for the CAF to be successful. Your troops can’t fight or do anything effectively if they are worried about their child. Either we address it or we keep losing troops who chose their family over their career.

If the private sector isn’t able to provide a solution the government shall have to.

When I was in the US, I appreciated how seriously they took childcare. Including with the base's leadership providing oversight to make sure the services were well provisioned and run. They recognize that this is part of family readiness for the member to be able to deploy or go on TD.

We think it's a chore and then wonder why members with school age kids sometimes quit.

I think the provinces would object because federally employed ECEs would get pay and benefits far beyond private industry.
Hopefully the hiring process would ensure all the best ones are poached.

This is just made up nonsense to avoid even trying. No provincial government is going to get their knickers in a twist over a handful of daycares serving a small proportion of military families.

In Halifax we've lost a few benefits from what we are told were municipal/local services providers complaining we were getting stuff free or for less than they offered.

Parking and Ferry services come to immediate mind, and of course PMQ rental prices also, but that was country wide.

I feel like those "excuses" are just messaging for the rank and file. It's something they get told to justify another way to take $$$ from members.

This is some really basic leadership stuff. And I'm so tired of the excuses we all make as leaders to pass the buck.

I wonder how many complaints they actually received from the local population as opposed to anonymous complaints filed by civilian employees of the base who were pissed off because they weren't entitled to the same entitlements. I have found that very few, bordering on none, of my neighbours were upset because of some of my benefits but other non-operational employees certainly were loud and condemning.
