Europe is where 95% of our lads are buried. We should never forgive Europe for that, never mind who started it and who dragged us in and whatever the arrangement in Europe are right now. It's their fault for letting things get to that point, and it always will be. We should never let them off the hook for that.

I want our vaunted PM and Defence Minister to publicly make that clear, because if they do not then you know exactly who will. If he does not, it just looks like Europe is extorting money to be part of a club and that's no different behaviour than Trumps tariffs.

As a business deal, we need the numbers. That's important for us as voters to decide if paying for access was worth it. Of course that will mean we likely need to make a lot of sales or perhaps save a lot of money with the interest rates. So the payoff might be many years into the future.

And they should always pay their respects and grant us extra consideration. No pushback, no talk back, no smug European BS. They should feel an obligation to open the door and forget the door charge. For once we need them, and it looks like they they want to charge a a multi billion dollar access fee that our government won't even admit of it's existence. It's complete BS, even the CBC has picked up on that.

We essentially abandoned our NATO obligations for the last 50 years. You earn respect every day, and once you lose it, you have to work to get it back. We, three generations removed from the one that fought, have no entitlement to anything our grandparents did, we literally have wasted the family fortune of goodwill with 60 years of neglect.

The fact that we signed this deal before the UK, and the fact they let us join at all, says a lot about what we are to many people in Europe, otherwise we wouldn't be able to join in the first place. So there is still goodwill.

As far as need them? No, I think we're equal partners here. We don't really need them, but getting access the EU military spending is potentially a big deal.

We wanted to fight those wars, the reality was Canadians at that time considered themselves British mainly not Canadians.

Keep in mind the Brits were also the only reason we were able to retain our sovereignty. Without them the US would have annexed us so it isn’t like we received no benefit from them either.

Oh wow. McGuinty wont say how much we have to pay to join, so that we can buy European equipment and help to defend Europe.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we are in, but I'm sick and tired of seeing Ottawa agreeing to have this country continuously get hosed by Europe.

Exactly - in the Winnipeg Camerons - the other Blue Hackles - the DEU "highland cut) coat, shirts, ties and shoes were issued by DND. But the kilt, sporran, headdress, the green patrol jacket, even the socks were issued from the regimental stock of uniforms.

The unit receives grants to purchase and to annually maintain that kit.

210.346 - GRANTS TO UNITS FOR THE PURCHASE AND MAINTENANCE OF KILTED ORDERS OF DRESS - RESERVE FORCE​

(1) Subject to paragraph (2) of this article, grants for the purpose of providing and maintaining selected items of clothing, as prescribed in paragraph (3) of this article, for wear with kilted orders of dress for officers and non-commissioned members of the Reserve Force, may be paid to the commanding officer of a Reserve Force unit authorized to wear kilted orders of dress:

1. when a unit is established, for each member on the authorized strength, an initial purchase grant equal to 60 per cent of the combined cost of the prescribed items of clothing, but not exceeding $253;

3. for each member on the strength of a unit, but not exceeding the authorized strength, an annual maintenance grant in the amount of $40; and
4. in accordance with any orders issued by the Chief of the Defence Staff.

Are they still managed by regiments or is it a direct issue from clothing stores?

Other than receiving and returning the kit it really never concerned me in the Camerons.

I do remember as RSS that the DCO of 26th Field would tear his hair out annually over band and kilt grants for the regiment's pipes and drums - yes - an artillery regiment with pipes and drums and dearly beloved at joint mess dinners at Minot AFB every year. The You'all fly boys just loved Canadian scarlet mess kit and pipes and drums.

I'm an outsider and don't pretend to understand all the machinations but, just an example, our daughter falls under CFMWS (not MFRC) and she has been told, repeatedly, that when the Base Commander issues a standdown for bad weather, pre-major holiday, or whatever, that the BC's direction does not apply to her. Part of problem is a lot of the managers and areas she reports to have been centralized and may be across the country.

My suggestion was that if she got in a collision because she had to stay at work when it was deemed unsafe for others, that the manager should be named in the lawsuit.
