I imagine because the PMO said he could? He has no lawful authority over the CCG. Why is he speaking on the topic at all?

I'm guessing because he was asked, so he gave the official GoC response...He has no lawful authority over the CCG. Why is he speaking on the topic at all?

It is not a question for the CAF. The CAF is not in the chain of command of the Coast Guard. He should have entirely deflected the question as a decision for the government of Canada, not for the CAF.I'm guessing because he was asked, so he gave the official GoC response...
Then again, the RCN have published their illegal set of ranks for more than half a decade, so subordination to lawful authority apparently isn't part of the NWO Occ Spec.
Because he was being directly asked those questions. He did clarify that there is a "Navy view" and that if the Government says "Do this", then the navy will do so. Not sure where he would get the sailors from to man weapons on CCG/merchant ships AND increase RCN crews for wartime ops?He has no lawful authority over the CCG. Why is he speaking on the topic at all?

He does not strike me as the type to shy away from walking the tightrope of public engagement, I suspect he feels the reward of more openness and engagement is worth the risk of stepping on toes. He might also have been asked to float trial balloons when the opportunity arises, that the government can distance themselves from if they don't land favourable. Then his job is to disengage. "That's a government of Canada policy decision, and the RCN will support the direction we are given by the government of Canada".
what about the CDS commenting on the CCG? Is that within their purview now?I am trying to imagine how this board would react if the CCG commissioner started opining about the RCD and what sensors and weapons it should have on board.
No.what about the CDS commenting on the CCG? Is that within their purview now?

I suspect the public and a lot of the media don't understand the distinction between DND and CAF.The CCG is not part of the CAF.
Adding the CCG which its own distinct entity further muddies the waters.I suspect the public and a lot of the media don't understand the distinction between DND and CAF.
as i did even though i should no better lolI suspect the public and a lot of the media don't understand the distinction between DND and CAF.
