Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The RCN has nothing to do with, nor is it effected by, the continual CA reshuffling for leading change points.

A nuclear deterrent is a more effective deterrent (but not a guarantee).

That being said conventional forces can be a effective deterrent as well. Look at Switzerland hasn’t been invaded in centuries despite being surrounded by countries that at various points in time wanted to.

Sometimes it isn’t about being able to fully defeat a invasion, it is about making the cost to invade much greater than the benefit. Look at Iran, they are losing the conventional fight, but they are making the costs much greater than the benefits.
On the deterrent front, seems a shame that we don't (apparently) have war (reserve?) stock that can be, should the neighbours come over the border, gleefully handed out to anyone willing to take a potshot at an invader, along with whatever minimum of uniforms (are armbands good enough?) are required to designate these people as lawful combatants.

Obviously a better trained and organized force would be better, however...
