Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

We have absolutely bought armoured vehicles from sources other than GM Diesel/GDLS since 1976. Leopard 1, Leopard 2, TAPV come to mind.

Fair comment on the TAPV. I guess I was lucky enough to have forgotten about it.

Also Nyala, RG-31, Cougar MRAP, Buffalo, Husky, and the TLAV upgrade.

Fair.

I still stand on the observation that this is not a new partnership and that the product dominates the fleet and also force design.

PS @YZT580 - Iltis was not armoured.

I have low expectations og government announcements but this one is extraordinary.

“Canada’s next fleet of armoured vehicles will be built by Canadians, for the Canadian Armed Forces,” Carney said in a social media post on July 31.. “Our new partnership with GDLS-Canada will create more than 6,000 good jobs — in London, Ontario and right across the country.”

We have been making armoured vehicles in that factory since Trudeau the First issued the 1976 contract for AVGPs. Since that date we haven't bought an armoured vehicle from any other source. This "new partnership" is 50 years old already.

🫤
What are the chances that this 'new' partnership could be the expansion of the product line that they produce and maybe going forward they'll be producing wheeled arty under license from someone else? A combined facility?
