Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

BFA issue has been solved, according to a conversation I had with a reporter with Jane's who tested the C25 out and got to ask questions. The new problem is retrofitting vehicles with rifle mounts to fit the C25
Thats a good problem to have imo. I cant see it being too arduous to sort out. Bustle bins on tanks/LAVs. Gun bags in ACSVs and LAV section seating. I can see them just going to that gun bag system across the board.

BFA issue has been solved for some time.
1) Don’t use Blanks ;)
2) Most Suppressor submissions require a BT-BFA (Bullet Trap-BFA) as part of the KPP’s, so either a specific units that clips or screws on like the live can, or for screw on aligned can’s like Strategic Science cans they have a clip on module.

WRT weapon racks, that shit drives me nuts - sling it, which is much easier if it has a shorter barrel, and a folding stock.

You want gunners to have their rifles slung in a turret?

Where do LAV gunners put their rifles? In the tanks they go in a bustle bin.

There's two carbine racks left of the turret basket. However since we tend to hand out carbines by rank vs role often they have rifles that dont fit. So they go either in the bustle or haphazardly "somewhere" inside the car.

Is intent to issue the GS C-25 to vehicle crews, or are they getting the FS C-26?

I think the question was about the crew in those sections lol.
100%

My question is about LAV crews vs. dismounts. Though, in fairness, I'm also unsure about the plan for gunners and armoured crew.

Gunners and armoured crew as in the trades of arty and armoured? They will get the GS variant, only the infantry will receive the FS rifle. It hasn't been communicated if mech inf bns will retain c25s for lav crews and have separate c26s for dismounts. In a perfect world I think that would be the plan.

In a rack then.
Honestly very few weapon racks are useful anymore - as with a MFAL, Suppressor, MFLight, and optics, there isn’t a lot of space - 5th Group and some of the 160th Birds got a modified single bracket to grab it on the handguard near the mag well - sort of like what was done with the 9mm C1 SMG back in the day, but I saw them needing to put a bungee retainer as any significant impact with the with platform would dislodge it, and then who knows where it will go. Rack clips also love to eat power cables - and using a hand guard cover segment can grow the circumference of the handguard beyond what the rack can take

There seems to a conundrum between retaining the weapon securely, and ensuring that the user can remove it from the rack with one hand. I’ve seen some 160th pilots fly with Mk18’s folded strapped to them - even with the 11.5” Short URGI and SOCOM suppressor fixed - it seems to be compact enough to allow them to fly - so I would guess that most positions could do that with something like the GS and it’s shorter barrel and the SS suppressor could work like that for most crew positions, other than probably a tank loader.

Again the whole balance of weapon accessibility requirements versus being able to conduct ones primary task -- I can see why some want/need racks, while others want the carbine to be immediately accessible - the other issue with racks, is that for whatever reason vehicle programs seem to be totally out of touch with the actual user needs, and across multiple countries one sees racks in all sorts of entirely impractical or useless places. I sort of sympathize with the program folks, as weapons change and their accessories even more rapidly - but placing a weapon either entirely out of reach - or where it blocks proper vehicle operations is inexcusable.

Not really an issue in the tanks. They go in a bin at the back of the turret and most of the crew are also issued pistols for quick dismounting for orders/etc.

If there's room I liked the hanging gun bags in the ACSVs. Just a standard soft case-looking bag attached near the seat with carabiners. I always left the bag unzipped so I could pull my C8 one handed but it was snug enough to retain it while bush bashing. K.I.S.S.
