Continental Defence Corvette

So... we're going with 3 River-Class Destroyers and 12 GMF 140 up-gunned frigates?
lol, playing Devils Advocate are you?

I truly hope that we don’t reinvent our Navy from 1996 here in 2036 with 3 Rivers, 12 of these ‘CDC’s’, 2 JSS and new Type 212CD’s.

maybe we dont end up with 15 RCD and only 12 as replacements for the Halifax? Short production runs arent great. I doubt the RCN or Irving will be in favour of moving off the RCD

12 Rivers, 18 CDC's, 4 JSS and 9-12 Type 212CD's = ok.

6 Rivers, 12 CDC's 2 JSS and 4-5 Type 212 CD's = not ok.

You need to manage your expectations. I personally think we'll get 15 River Class, 2 JSS and probably 5 to 8 CDC with probably 4 to 6 subs.

Would you rather see 3 less Rivers but 2-3 more CDC’s and 2-3 more subs?

the level at which the Germans commit to spending money in Canada will govern the number of 212CD you get. They have made a huge initial commitment, if we try to renege on it we will definitely be assigned seats at the back of the bus if they even allow us to board in the first place.

We haven't even signed a contract yet. Given what we've done with the River Class having signed a contract for 3 and possibly 6 and 6 in two more flights we could walk away if we want anytime. I suspect we'll sign a contract for 4 subs with the understanding we'll sign more contracts later, just like what we did for the F-35. If Germany wants to screw us over we'll go back to the Koreans.

Can you ask again in 10 years? 2036?
By then, according to what's been publicly spoken about, we should already have 4 Type 212CD's delivered to us. We should also be possession of 3 Rivers and both JSS will already be 7yrs old.

i think that lines up with the deliver slots that the NoGerm's have stated to us, 4 subs before 2035 and when the Vic's are over and done with.

I'd rather see a Navy that meets our expected available manning in the future.
Understood but that's a completely unknown at this time.
A lot is riding on the ability of the CAF to implement, deliver, maintain a recruiting process that actually works. Last fiscal year met the numbers, but 1 yr isn't a trend or a successful outcome.

I was just reading an article about the Dutch. Part of their ATS rationale was recruiting and retention problems. It is not a localized issue.

Well we wont get a 4th sub until 2034 and might not get 13th RCD for 20 yrs

2025 - 2034, that’s 9yrs by my count.

When you publicly disclose that you start working on something, that’s when the clock starts.
