Hi all I was just wondering if someone who has done both BIQ and DP1 could do me a favour and tell me about the Reg Force BIQ. I've just about finished my Component Transfer and head off to Wainwright next week and I have had some questions about the differences in the Reserve DP1 and the Reg Force BIQ. Yes I know BIQ is longer and more in depth then DP1. I was just wondering if someone could tell me some of the things that i will learn on BIQ that i would not have learned on DP1 and how when you pass it how they decide on what Batallion they send you to.

any answers to those questions and just anything usefull about it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advanced

Nate

Nate....

Reg & Res DP1 are identical in that they comprise:  BQ, SQ and BIQ.  Same courses BUT, the Res course is a "LITE" version of the Reg course.

The Powers that be in Ottawa decided a long time ago that they could live with a "delta" in the capabilities of Regular VS Reserve Infantrymen (and many other trades).  Filling in the delta would be looked after IF and WHEN it was required to deploy the reservist on a ROTO.

Some trades have decided to bite the bullet and their BMQ course is taught to both Reg AND Reserve... Engineers being one branch that comes to mind ;)  However, the BMQ for a reserve sapper is spread out over two summers - which causes some problems there too

Geo, I think you meant something other than "BMQ" ...

What is the engineer QL3 called now anyway?

Nope, no mistake

BMQ = Basic Military qualification... as in Basic Engineer Qualification.

BMQ = Basic Military qualification... as in Basic Infantry Qualification.

Same thing for most all green trades as far as the basic DP1 career profile goes... fill in the trade designation where the "M" is located.

1.  BQ  Basic qualification
2.  SQ  Soldier Qualification (there have been some efforts to split the material of this course - distribute some on the BQ and some on the BMQ)
3    BMQ  Basic Military Qualification

Ok now I'm confused geo  ;D but I can see what you are getting at. ;)

Heh... you shoulda seen how confused us dinosaurs got when they told us to toss out our understanding of
TQ1 thru TQ7 and replace with the DPs

I know, I still call the courses by QL's and not as DP whatever

DP is a develompenmt period and there can be several trade specific courses within a DP
so calling a Basic Infantry qualification "DP1 Infantry" is wrong....

To a certain extend right?

So let me get this straight for engineers:

DP1 = BMQ+SQ+Trades Course right?

DP2 = Section 2I/C + PLQ

DP3 = Recce Ops + Tp WO + ILQ?

Pert much in a nutshell.

For the dinosaurs
DP1= GMT & TQ3
DP2= TQ5 & Jr NCO
DP3= Recce Sgt, Sr NCO & TQ6B

No one is getting away with less training.

The whole idea with the DPs was to break down into logical (?) groups, rank and trade qualifications.  However, what is logical in one trade isn't necessarily logical in another.... oh well, once everyone understands the DP system, someone will change things again and start another string of buzzwords & acronyms.

What confused many people was that in some trades there were TQ4s but not 5s, some had 6As but not 6Bs....

and it wasn't limited to differences between Green, Blue & Black - differences abounded within the Green ???

So BMQ is now called BQ, and QL3's are now called BMQ? Does everyone on the site know this? All the recruit wannabes are now really excited about starting their BMQ, and they won't actually be doing that until they're on their 3rd course.....

Oh, well..... as long as everyone knows what I mean when I say QL3, or QL5's.... but then, some people don't.....  ???

Me, Engineer.

No... BQ is BQ = Basic qualification
        SQ is SQ = Soldier's qualification

BMQ is the Basic Military (trade) qualification  example:  Basic Infantry qualification OR Basic Engineer Qualification OR etc.....

Me, Engineer. ;)

This is news to me, and I'm no dinosuar.... but nonetheless; Seen.

Ummm... as a sapper you're a Dinosaur?

Gawd, after 35 yrs in, what does that make me? ???
