Does anyone know if reservists can do an OT while a CT application is pending (so that they switch to the trade for which they have applied for a CT)?

Thanks

OT from a reserve MOS to a reserve MOS while attempting to CT?  No.  One or the other but not concurrently.

No time to dig stuff up, shouldn't even be on the site right now.

Hi all, I am currently in the Naval Reserves at HMCS Car in Ottawa. i was wondering about doing an occupational transfer into an engineering squadron also as a Res. what would my IPC be, as i have already met IPC3? also would i have to redo my BMQ? if anyone can give me a couple of answers that would be awesome.

As an OS, you have presumably completed BMQ.  To the best of my knowledge you would retain your IPC when moving over to the Engineers, and have t ocomplete an SQ course, along with your DP1 training.  Assuming you'll be going over as a Combat Engineer, that training would be at the CF School of Military Enginnering in Chilliwack Gagetown (why is there no emoticon for "good old days?").

yes i have done BMQ, thnks for the info on the other courses i would have to do, and yes i would like to switch to the Combat Engineers. Cheers

And now it will take 12 weeks inorder to become a fully trained Sapper (and this is for the Reserves  :o )

Can someone (dapaterson pretty please) reconsider this question because I just received a completely contradictory response from the local CFRC.

That being said, I am not sure the answer provided was terribly well researched as the recruiter finished the email with "I can't see any reason why not" which leads me to believe that he doesn't KNOW one way or the other but has an intuitive sense that it is possible.

Thanks in advance to whomever comes up with the answer.

Eek.  I must admit that I don't know how such things would work.

I do know that our HR management systems are poorly aligned (how's that for trying to find a polite way to say all f***'d up?).  While on paper, undergoing a OT to get into your desired occupation for a CT while simultaneously undergoing the CT/OT process is probably possible, I suspect it would result in the clerk handlign the file to get a glazed look in their eyes, and shunt the file into the pile labelled "Very confusing, deal with later".

However, I would talk to the recruiters - thy should have up to date information on how the process should work.

Try to get in touch with your BPSO and see what he thinks about it. You can ask him, for example, if he would recommend you for an OT knowing that you have a pending CT.

I have no idea how upcoming changes to the recruiting process will affect OTs (something you can verify again with your BPSO) but right now, it can be a very lengthy process...unless you are a trouble maker and the unit wants you out as soon as possible ;).

How about none.

For the original question.  A lot depends on your reserve unit and how they react to your OT while you are in the CT process as they are in control of your destiny when it comes to OT.  As far as the recruiting system is concerned they will want to know what your final reserve service is so that a reasonable offer can be made if you do get your CT.  Just keep the CFRC/D informed of what occupation you are this week.
