Delay of Release Date

I am just wondering if anyone had ever heard of anyone getting a 3b medical release from the RegF asking for a change of release date, a delay of say 90 days?
If so what would be the procedure to do so, and who would the memo be address to?

On what grounds would you ask for a release to be delayed? The point of a medical release is that you don't meet medical standards, cannot therefore be employable/deployable... In what way is it in the military's interest to delay release?

Would this be in reference to treatment that a person may be receiving, as opposed to them just being released with not further treatment necessary/required/applicable?

It would be because of a few issues:
1. Specialists appointments are already booked after release date with Military Specialists
2. Severe difficulty in obtaining adequate civilian medical care.
3. Waiting for referrals for Civilian Specialists as most of the specialists  seen are Military Personnel.
4. Difficulty with obtaining appointments with Case Management team. For administrative purposes military member elects their IPR, and requests to be posted there prior to release.
File is then transferred to the Local JPSU/IPSC. Due to complex medical condition and mandatory follow up it is decided  by the MO and both of the Base Surgeons, that it is in the
members best intrest to not have their medical care transferred to the new base  (1.5 hrs away),  but to continue with a physician that is very familiar with the member.
The member had an appointment at the new base with case management where many questions and concerns were raised, and a follow up appointment was made.
The day before the followup appointment the member receives an email from the Case Management team stating " Due to your medical care continuing at your previous base, I have
been instructed to transfer your Case Management file back to your previous base, and to inform you that your appointment for tomorrow with XXXX at XXXXhrs has been cancelled.

Please call XXXX at XXXXXXXX to book an appointment once your file has arrived. To make complications worse your Case Manager is away on Annual Leave for the next 7 weeks
and will not be available until such time."

The case manager is returning 2 1/2 weeks prior to member releasing.  Providing that she has the file upon her return, and there are other members in the same situation,  member
is worried that leaving it this late will create problems as the member should be on retirement leave by this time.

Member is also 8 weeks post Op at this current time.

Member was instructed by their CoC to write a memo to the CO of JPSU through CoC requesting an extension of 30-90 days to allow such time to sort out the issues listed above.
Yes the member has all of the email correspondence to back up all of this information.

Any ideas?

You case will be managed by the Local IPSC/JPSU.

Your release date was only "Recommended" by all Physicians on base, final decision is from DCSM.  The IPSC staff will be able to guide you, and explain that your release date, will not happen before any medical appointments are complete.

You will NOT be release before all medical treatment, covered under the service of care, from the military is complete.

Go talk to the IPSC, before writing any memos.

In your opinion then it is possible to ask for an extension based on the information I outlined above?  Is there anything else member needs to know policy wise
when asking for such a request?
The other issue member is running into is the policy regarding prescription medication upon release. In the SCAN Seminar for members who are going
through the medical release process the information that was provided to us by the flight surgeon was that all members who are being medically released 3a, or
3b will be given a 3 month supply of all prescriptions that they are taking at time of release. The understanding was this is because it can take up to 3 months for
members to be issued a valid OHIP card (Ontario),  and will also allow time for members to find a civilian physician to continue ongoing care for their medical issues.
After talking with the Pharmacist at the MIR, she stated that this is only a courtesy that the pharmacy will provide a 90 day supply of medications upon release, and members
who are on several different heavy strength narcotics should not expect that they will be given a 90 day supply of such medication and will need to make sure they have found
a civilian physician who can provide adequate medical care, and who will be willing to continue on the same course of treatment that was being provided at the MIR by the military
physician, including writing prescriptions on an ongoing basis for those medications which would be considered narcotics.

This is the members concern, being released from the military and not being able to find adequate civilian medical care, not being issued a 90 day supply of the necessary
medications the member is currently taking as directed by their military physician, and having no where to turn for help with the process! Providing that the Case Manager is able
to meet with member upon her return from annual leave, in my opinion there is not enough time for these issues to be dealt with before member is being released.

CANFORGEN 094/10 indicates that a Mbrs Release date can be delayed to allow completion of Education Upgrading thru ILP. In my case, wanting to complete high school Chemistry - starts 7 Jan 2019 - ends in May. Release date is April.

  Has anyone ever asked for a delay in Release Date, something similar as above?  If so, is there very many hoops to jump thru?
