DEU Protocal?

OK so I'm going On vacation with my wife on a cruse ship and I was wondering for the captins dinner they have on board should I or can I dress in my Dress Uniform ?
its a varier formall dinner.

Any wear / use of your uniform in that manner must be authorized by your Commanding Officer.

I have been on a few cruises.. and I have seen many military members wear a uniform to the formal dinner.. However, they were in mess kit, and not in DEU with a bow tie..
Most men will be wearing a tux, I think you would be pretty under dressed in DEU.. Mess kit on the other hand, looks quite sharp.

sorry I got dress and DEU confused.
my question is since I'm not working (I'm on vacation ) would it be proper (since I am in the Reserves )to be in dress uniform for Super formal occasions I have heard of some people dressing in it for Graduations and the such.
