After a few months of debate about making sure it was the trade I wanted, and driving 2 hours to go see the HMCS fredricton, I made my mind up and was 100% on joining the Navy as a NES op. The last week I filled out all my paperwork, got all my transcripts together and references I marched in to the recruiting office today ready to apply. The recruiter asked why I was there and I told him I was there so apply with a NES op. He abruptly stopped me and told me that recruiting was closed for this trade, and many other trades. I won't lie, I'm super dissapointed. I understand that once Jobs get filled they can't recruit for them anymore until any spots open up, but i'm still bummed out. The recruiter told me today that it opens back up in April, and I plan on waiting until then and putting my app in. Now i'm worried there is going to be an influx of people in April and getting in will be much more competitive. My question is, is there anything I can do in the mean time, maybe programs I could take or courses, that would make me stand out more when April comes?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happened to me.  Don't sweat it.

Give them everything they need, and if you can, try to write the CFAT before April.  I got a call pretty quickly in April to get my medical and interview done, and after that, it took about 3 or 4 weeks to get a job offer.

Don't worry too much.

I can't guarantee you have the same luck as I did, but you also can't say you won't, so just stick with it and don't get discouraged!

On top of that, you also have to consider, as far as setting yourself apart from the group, anything helps.

Do you do sports? Start.
Are you in good shape? You better be come next year.
Are you in a leadership position? Get in one.

You get the idea.

Thanks for posting this. I am in the exact same situation and equally disappointed.

These guys are right though, nothing to do now but keep training and make sure come April we're top candidates.

By the time it was back three days later the trade had closed. That's dissapointing. :P

Yea def dissapointing. The economy isn`t helping our situation much. All these people that can`t find civvy jobs are applying for the military I think.

Not really..people who want to join the Canadian Forces DO join, the ones who don't get weeded out eventually. I'm kind of confused as to why they had the Navy recruiting spree after all of the Naval trades were closed. Was kind of funny getting off the HMCS Fredericton and grabbing some magnets, only to have the guy there ask me if I was interested in joining, I told him I was and that was why I was leaving in November for NESOP :P
