DND 404 - Driver's Licence ( merged )

Contact 12 Wing OPS, they would advise where a RAMP DDC is required.

MSE Safety from Wing Tpt can also give you the answers. Though if you have a RAMP DDC from a Wing or Sqn (ie 408 in Edmonton, 427 Pet) does not mean that you can drive on any or all taxiways/ramps. where you do the Ramp DDC is where you are allowed to operate and drive MSE on their ramps/taxiway etc..

Hi, I'm currently waiting for my bmq to start in January and and i have been looking all over this site and even on google but i can't find the proper answer to my question. I don't have any driver licence at the moment an I wonder when will i get a dnd 404 and will it be possible to transfer it into a civil driver licence without taking a civil driver courses of 12 month, if it is possible, how and when can i do it.

ps: Sorry for my English its ain't my first language and i don't speak or write it as often as i should

You do not need a provincial driver licence to get a DND 404. However, the CAF driver training and DND 404 is no longer transferrable to a provincial driver licence.

so even if i have a dnd 404 i still need to do all the process to have a civil licence my military driver training will count for noting on the civil world??

Correct.

You can try and get an insurance discount for having the Defensive Driving and Safe Backing.

Not sure if it's still done, but when I went for my DL in Nova Scotia, I didn't have to wait the 30 days between getting the beginners and doing the driving test because I had 404s.

i don't have a driver license neither and when I've asked to my recruiter if i really needed one to get in armored . he just asked me ''Can u drive a tank on a highway ?" ... no ?! ...." then u don't need a driver license " .. make sense ....  :salute:

Obviously your Recruiter was not Armoured.

I may suggest you learn to use correct English grammar if you want to remain here in good standing.

I am talking just a basic driving course for any trade? and when I say basic I mean

The civilian equivalent of class 5. or even Novice Drivers ? Mostly asking about BC.

There's a provincial supplement that you have to do anytime you go to a new province (basically it makes sure you understand the province's driving regulations) and there is the Defensive Driver Course (DDC). That used to be all you needed to get 404s and be qualified on blue feet (sedans, crew cabs, 8-passanger vans).

However, it does not teach you to drive. It does have driving courses for military specific vehicles but you will require 404s before taking those.

And even more fun, you MUST qualify on every vehicle you plan on driving, even if it is a "lesser" vehicle than what you may hold quals for already. For example, if you are qualified on a LAV III you still have to take a course to drive the MILCOT (the green Silverado).

okay so how do you get a 404 would a Civi Learners be enough? and If I where to Qualify for  MILCOT could I use that to get a civilian drivers ?

In the past, I have seen people with a Learner's been granted their 404s. We actually had one member learn to drive G-Wagens, LAV IIIs and T-LAVs with his L and he managed to get his N decal before deploying.

Unless things have changed, you don't need a civilian DL to get 404s.
