So I've been reading a lot of old Äge of Sail novels (Bolitho, Ramage, etc) lately, and I found myself suddenly wondering if the Navy still trains to repel boarders in this day and age?

cheers,
Jason

Not really.

What we do now is train for a force protection state. Depending on the percieved threat, various weapon systems are manned and damage control teams made ready. The most likely threats are small fast moving boats, either with a couple guys with RPGs or the boat itself loaded down with explosives used as the weapon.

Sadly, we no longer execute amphibious landings to rescue beautiful italian nobles either :(

Ramage and Bolitho are great series.

We don't? Awww man, why did I join this outfit?

Although with navies starting to escort ships off of Africa it might be something we should look into especially if we look into putting armed detachments onboard.
