hey. I'm just a random person. I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a friend who is going to the prison in Edmonton. I'm kind of "scared" for him. He's got 2.5 years.... anyways I was wondering what anyone might know about it. Or if they know someone else that can tell me some stuff. i don't really know anything about military so... i need to know any/everything. thanks for your help. if you don't mind!

2 years less a day, or did that change?

Sorry can't help you with Club Ed info.

As far as I know, the longest you can be imprisoned there is 2 years less a day. Curious your friend isn't going to be having fun at the detention/prison barracks. Thats most of the info I know about it.

You're correct the maximum time a CF member can spend at the Canadian Forces Service Prison and Dentention Barracks (CFSPDB) is 2 less a day. If his/her sentence is longer he/she will be transferred to a federal penitentiary once they have completed 2 less a day at the CFSPDB. I work at the DB and have not heard of an inmate about to arrive with this sentence.(the day is still young)

Military prison is worst than civilian, this is what I've been told.....i don't think your friend will be in vacation there.....he is most likely to do a lot of dirty work a lot....

Worse is a relative word.

I spent a weekend in remand in Surrey a few years ago, I'd say that DB was a nicer place to pass the time, based on my perspective. ;)

I have not heard of an sentences that long since Kyle Brown's stay...

....and if he has avoided the optional accompanying punishment of Dismissal with Disgrace or Dismissal (National Defence Act Article 140.1 (1)) he will likely return to his unit a much better, fitter and squared away soldier.

As a friend, what YOU can do is encourage him along this path while he serves his sentence.

There's a great thread about DB Edmonton in which people have given their personal accounts of their experiences there. It will probably give you most of the information you're looking for:

What you've been told here, and the link to the accompanying thread, is about as good as it gets. Read all that, then you can ask questions.
