The stuff that gets picked up by internal review of the infra projects by DND SMEs frequently falls into this category, and almost makes me miss working on the NSS files. Not just structural, but plenty of basic errors on fire, electrical, mechanical and others where things don't meet basic code, let alone DND requirements.

No big deal though, it'll be fine to just streamline the process and skip those reviews to expedite project delivery as it's all signed off by professional engineers and architects, right?

There are some really excellent firms that we learn things off of, but they only have so much capacity and get underbid by some of these useless idiots, or they use it as an opportunity to train up the C team. Pretty wild.

We have a saying where I work, we don’t have the time to do it right, only the time to do it twice (or more).

Halfassing things is a Canadian tradition, we don’t like putting the effort in needed to get the result in the first place and will often pay more for a lesser product by time everything is said and done.

Working with a road engineer for Canfor, he said they saw real longterm savings with the changes made under the Forest Practice Code in regards to main FSR's. The reduction in road and bridge failures easily paid for the higher upfront costs.
