How possible is it for an unqualified civilian in the Reserves?

Hmmm, not really sure what you're asking here....If you're asking if unqualified civilians can get jobs as med techs in reserve field ambs, the answer is yes....but.

If you don't have a license you're not terribly competitive.  If you also can't string word together coherently, I'd say you're at a major disadvantage.

Yes, apologies for the broken sentence. I will not ask disjointed questions.

Reserve FD AMBs need you to have some highschool science and be either working in the medical field or studying to work in the medical field.  I hear it is harder to become a reserve Med Tech than a reg force one these days.

If you meet the entrance requirements, and have a functioning head on your shoulders, you should be able to learn your job in no time.

Does the final decision come down to whether you are working in the medical field or not?

Maybe.  It all depends on the number of applicants to number of positions.

I would think it is a combination of both. The numbr of applicants and how long in the field.

Yes and No,

There are finite numbers that each reserve field amb can take on in a given year.
Of those positions priority has to be given out to:

1. Applicants who are currently practicing in a health related field
2. Applicants who are currently enrolled in an accredited health care school
3. Applicants who have a desire to enter into a health care field (Civi)
4. Applicants who have stated an interest in the reserve medical system.

Depending on the number of applicants and their quals you may have a chance if you are in the #4 category but if there are a great number of applicants then they may be filled by pers in the #1 and 2 categories.

Good luck!

Thanks. I'm applying for paramedic at Algonquin as a civi job. Let's hope it goes right.
