France and China in Joint Naval Exercise

I just read an article on this:

I guess my reaction is What the --ck is France doing? But then again, they are a socialist nation and I believe still have a Communist Party.

Could someone tell me what the French national interest would be in this exercise? Why they are aligning themselves against Taiwan?

same reaction here...but then again, I‘ve never been really impressed with that nation.

As for their intentions? Who knows...and frankly, who cares.
