Globe and Mail -Heather Mallicks Bull&%$@

Sad to see how much the author of the article cheapened the 4 contractors deaths like that. They were there doing a job no one else wanted to do, he could have mentioned that in his article.

Yeah but then it would not be the biased Canadian Lib-left media we all come to loath

That is, without question, one of the most idiotic things that I have ever read. Aren‘t journalists supposed to be absolutely, neutral and objective purveyors of world events? If that is the case, then they should accept no paycheque - lest it may cloud their objectivity. They should, as their duty to mankind, ply their trade purely for mankind‘s benefit. I bet that jerk gets a cheque from the G&M every week.

I thought most of it was so much rubbish and tripe spewed by some fugnut. What upset me the most was the asinine, ignorant and selfish quote that could only come from your typical self centered liberal.

"My first charitable thought was that the mercenaries were the same cannon fodder as regular soldiers. This is not quite true. The typical soldier fights because he has no other chance in life, but also out of some degree of patriotism or feeling for his fellow grunts"

This really demeans what we have chosen as a career. If only civilian companies could have even 1/3 of their workforce as dedicated, hardworking, resourcefull and non-bitching as the folks I work with daily they‘d be the better for it. I‘ve read some of her past post and she has one recurring theme. Whinge at the world for everything.

Trust me I‘ve had a few other choices of jobs, some were much higher paying, a very few had better benifits, some were not as physically demanding and all of them did not place me in danger of being shot, stabbed and burned by a bunch of savage dogs. None took me away from my family for months and months at a time. I am here because I do this better than anything else, as are most of you. I am here because I chose this.

End of rant, thanks

Slainte,

Reporters are the mercenaries. The difference being they are unprofessional and assassinate with a biased pen, slanted views and an acid tongue. They hire out to the highest bidder, tow the party line, with no thought to self esteem, truth or dignity. They fire their prose indiscriminately and bring destruction to a far wider range of the population than any security contractor could ever do, without WMD‘s. They inhabit the same sludge at the bottom of the primordial ooze that succors the politicians.

recceguy - I agree totally, and just sent that witch a letter to that effect.

Caveats - I don‘t really dislike Upper Canadians - it just seems this stuff is always coming out of Toronto (or, Lower Canada) ;)

My mention of soldiers with less than noble intentions... wasn‘t referring to ANYONE on this board (even the people I don‘t like) :)

Ms. Mallick - This article was, without a doubt, one of the most moronic pieces of literature that I‘ve ever read. It exemplifies the whiny, leftist, and anti-American pouting from Upper Canada, that people in the west and east, have come to hate. "Ohhhh... hired guns of the Evil Empire".

First, with the issues of mercenaries, you act as if this is something new. Do a little research - mercenaries have been used for thousands of years. Of course, that aspect would reduce the effects of your alarmist stance.

Second - "I pledge allegiance to my paycheque"? Boy, if that‘s not a hypocritical statement. You don‘t pledge allegiance to the Editors at the Globe & Mail (i.e. YOUR paycheque)? Come now - you should be an objective and neutral purveyor of world events, as a journalist. If you are here to serve the better good of mankind, you probably shouldn‘t be doing this for pay - lest it clouds your objectivity. I suppose that is different, though.... Do you honestly think that every Canadian soldier serves our Armed Forces for Queen and Country? Surely you are not that naive - many joined for a career. I guess you are not old enough to remember the first Gulf War, when droves of our service people, at the thought of being deployed, protested "Hey - we just joined up for a job - we weren‘t expecting this stuff!"

Third - Your opinions seem to question the patriotism of these men. What have you done, in the service of YOUR country, to put you in such a position to question the motives of others? I‘d be very interested in knowing that.

Anti-US? Fine. Anti-Bush? Also fine. Thumping your left-wing drum at the expense of men whose career choice YOU didn‘t agree with? Ridiculous. I suppose if they were prostitutes or drug dealers, you‘d be defending them, for some reason.

Got a response back from Mallick about the email I sent her. Made my day and confirmed my thoughts.Response below:

Guess she wasn‘t interested in discussing anyone else‘s point of view. This broad‘s a gluebag, typical of her type. She‘s probably looking for a job at the National Enquirer...on second thought, they‘re too professional for her. :p

I wonder how she‘d feel if the G&M decided to send her to follow up her article by going to Fallujah in person. The military‘s too busy to waste manpower protecting her, and I doubt any civilians would like to...

I wonder if Mallick ever set foot out of Canada in her life.

She thrilled me so much (NOT!) that I‘m going to write the Globe and Mail Ombudsman.

Stay tuned ...

Send the letter again, but send it to her editor as well!

Slim

P.S. your letter was well written and well thought out. It deserves a reading...I guess she can write but can‘t read worth a ****!

Nice letter, but try to not mention left-right political slants, lest it be automatically branded. Most of the really poignant articles let you guess at the author‘s politically ideology by the points raised.

The irony of journalism is that there are so many people with the qualities necessary to become a journalist, that the ones that make it are those that betray the very ideals of journalism in the first place. Forced to resort to shock reporting, the ones that do the "true, unbiased" reporting are the ones who can least defend their illogical arguments upon closer scrutiny. If you see an apology, expect "ignorance" to be the defense.

Sorry to dredge this one out of the archives but I found this response to one of her articles while I was looking for info on her. Enjoy, Enjoy, I certainly did. ;D

Heather Mallick, Heather Mallick,
Do you have a hole cephalic?
Is your cranium still clicking?
Have your brain cells ceased their ticking?
Are your neurons all a-twisty?
Is your vision foggy, misty?
Is your mind becoming cloudy
From your efforts to be Dowd-y?

Mallick, Heather, Mallick, Heather,
Has your reason slipped its tether?
Though I've looked in nooks and crannies,
I can't find the jackboot nannies.
I don't see the thugs transvestite.
I don't hear the knock at midnight.
Could it be that fascist nation
Lives in your imagination?

Mallick, Mallick, Heather, Heather,
Do you ever wonder whether
All your flights of prose so prancy
End up in the land of fancy?
While you're busy Globe and Mailing,
Does your common sense go sailing?
Is your wit, so saucy, tempty,
Used for purposes quite empty?

I think it describes her pretty good.

Found it here when I Googled her name:

That is one of the greatest modern myths out there... that reporters are neutral and only report the facts of a story.  The business of reporting news and world events is purely baisbiased written with the objectives of the reporter, editors and owners of the paper in mind.  Its always been that way, and I think it will always be that.  As long as one goes into reading the so called news with that in mind, you can find some very good reporting and like this one very poorly written ones.

Look at the National post, when it was owned by the Black media corp... it was very right wing and reflected his views on the world and what is important.  His paper was only one one pushing for a common currencies with the US.  Now that is owned by Canwest, its more center right even going almost supporting Liberals... something Black owned paper would never of supported.

You want a prime example of biased media, look no further than the communist brainwashing corporation.Any type of news media funded by CBC is so blatantly anti-american/anti Israel it's disgusting.
