Iran Super Thread- Merged

Speaking of drones

Looks like that's now potentially 7 refuellers out of battle today, although let's see what additional information follows.

Wasn’t it just days ago the U.S. got cranky and told Israel to rein in attacks on Iran’s oil infrastructure due to the macroeconomic impacts? Now he’s threatening to wipe out the civilian oil infrastructure on Kharg Island? Make this make sense for me please.

I think they believe they'll have leverage over the regime if they get the Island.

The problem, however, is that they risk creating an economic crisis as oil prices moon. And if I'm Iran, I lean into this hard by going after everything in the Strait and going after the Saudi oilfields and Qatar's gas fields. The smart play for the regime is to escalate hard and make the oil shock as painful as they can.

But I guess it's the only play the Administration has left. There is no real way to force the regime to stop the denial operation at the Strait. Good luck to the USN and USMC I guess.

Good primer:

"No quarter" during military conflict, as far as I understand, implies that combatants would not be taken prisoner, but executed.

I would assume most people agree this is illegal?

You would be correct.

That's why he fired all the lawyers. And the folks who do Collateral Damage Estimates and develop CDE methodology, ... Against the the recommendation of those woke generals (the Joint Chiefs and Combatant Commanders).

If the Iranians decide to mine the oil facilities at Kharg with a few to destroying them if the marines land things could become interesting.

Take out the electrical substations and that will make sabotage a bit harder. Once they secured the Island, perhaps hand it over to a coalition of Gulf State troops to hold, freeing up US forces for potentiel landing at Qeshm Island.

U.S. troops on the island could be fairly exposed.

Guess we'll soon see how flattened Kharg is. Outside of the oil facility there really isn't much else on the island other than dirt, and I don't believe the IRGC would handily keep all the military stuff clearly separated.

Just moved a bunch of posts into the politics area from posters who should know better. Next step is public shaming before we just straight up move this thread into the politics area and ruin discussion like the Ukraine thread.
