Iran Super Thread- Merged

Iran will likely assert itself once the US says “mission accomplished” by making a few strikes to prove a point that the strait will never be safe.

I’m curious if Iran starts taking blood money from other nations to allow safe passage. Money that could say be used to finance its nuclear ambitions.

At this point I can’t see this being a short excursion for the US Military.

Reminds me of being in Italy decades ago when the Mafia and Baader-Meinhof were at their height. Draftees with submachine guns patrolling airports and train stations. I'd hoped we were over that.

😠
When I deployed to Cyprus in 76 the first person I observed in the airport in Frankfurt was a German in full kit with an Uzi. The second person I observed was a braless tall German woman.

:giggle:

Maybe you shouldn’t have pissed off all your traditional allies.

So now the US is calling on others to help them with this. I’ll be curious to see how this plays out.

And you just know if they are helped there will be nothing in return. Back to trade threats.

Random question - but would the Kingston class's mine-clearing capability be helpful to clear the Straight of Hormuz once this intense fighting passes?

Would the Kingston class be helpful at all in clearing the Straight? Fleet Diving Units?

Just thinking out loud here... 🤷🏼‍♂️

100 ships a day need an escort through there. They will need a lot of allied help. We should be asking for trade concessions when they come. And be ready to send a frigate, some MCDVs and a six pack over there.

Make this as transactional as possible. Drop tariffs and we’ll consider it.

The problem is their word isn’t worth much these days.

So the US military (primarily the USN & USAF) are depleting the country's stocks of munitions quite rapidly during this whole thing...

$11.3B worth of ordinance dropped just in the first 2 days of operations alone (holy crap!)

Meanwhile China is just leaning back with it's feet up. Largest navy in the world that's growing more & more literally by the week, that's topped up with munitions and has plenty of extra stockpiled.

Sun Tzu's guidance yet again proving timeless

China is doing weird things with their fishing fleet (basically their merchant marines) right now. Really weird.

Literally days ago when Starmer announced he was sending a carrier, Trump basically effed him off saying “too late”. Fun turn of events.

I was wondering this myself a few days back. I’ve mentioned sending a six pack as well - give our pilots some practice on drone interdiction.

Abso-friggin’-lately. Make it clear we’re happy to help on a transactional basis.

I haven’t been tracking. What’s going on there?

I think they are practicing using their fishing fleet as an obstacle to restrict unfriendly warship movement closer to China's 2nd island chain...

By flooding an area with fishing vessels that won't be engaged by allied warships, they can completely deny freedom of movement in select areas just by making the area so congested that warships can't travel through it.

Basically they are militarizing their fishing fleet & rolling them into their plans to control their water ways.

Allied warships can't do ASW & can't transit freely, forcing them to operate from further away. Basically helping the Chinese to shape the battlespace to their liking.

It wouldn't surprize me if their fishing fleets deployed some big pieces of something like tin foil while surrounding some of their warships to make targeting extremely difficult.

...

Regardless, they are watching the USN & USAF deplete themselves by fighting a war with Iran right now...which has to be factoring into their Taiwan planning scenarios

🤷🏼‍♂️🍻

Even with them around we still had 2 Gypsies come up to us separately asking for money.
Dealt with them enough back in the day when I lived in Prague. Had no time for them then and I had less now.

Something about reaping and sowing ....

For the record, here's the official transcript of yesterday's brief by Hegseth & Co., in case you want to find classics like, "The only thing prohibiting transit in the Straits right now is Iran shooting at shipping. It is open for transit, should Iran not do that." Also archived here.

I'm starting to think there might have not actually been a plan.
