I'm beginning to think that the best thing that could happen is the US just tear off the band-aid and pull out of NATO. Force the Europeans to make the tough decisions and investments required to fully take control of European defence and at the same time the US can stop complaining if NATO nations don't tow the line on American unilateral policy decisions.

Ok, and then what? Which countries should the inevitable refugees go to? Iraq? Turkey (and then on to Europe), the Gulf States? Pakistan, maybe Azerbaijan or Armenia?

hardcore regime types might have to flee to Afghanistan for bit. But not the country of choice. They be limited where they can go. I suspect Russia would invite them in and then draft them into the army.....

Non-Regime Iranians would go to countries where there is a big diaspora already. To be frank, they would be the refugees that you want. They have a desire to work, make money and set up businesses, some will have access to cash to start those businesses and will hire other refugees. North Vancouver is already 21% Persian.

How things change…

Obama did a crap job, both on Iran and Ukraine. Had Obama responded forcefully to Crimea, you would not have had the 2022 invasion. Obama kept redrawing the lines in the sand for Iran and made them confident they could push and play him.

Not that I think Trump is great either.

It’s in complete violation of the sovereignty of those countries if Israel continues to do without their express permission.
