Is there really such thing as "no more room" in the entire province?

I've been calling units seeing if they have positions open, all of them seem to be full, are reserves really in not that high of a demand. Do I possibly have to wait a few years to see if a spot is open?

Hard to say - your profile doesn't indicate what province you are in.  If you are in Ontario, the Naval Reserve is certainly recruiting - all units.

I will reserve final judgment on you until such time as I meet you, but right now you are hovering on the line between eager and retarded.

Did you pay any attention to the PMs we have exchanged? Do you not understand that most units operate at a slower pace in the summer? Did I not tell you that our stand too was on the 3rd of September?

Patience, please. You are eager, great, but now you are crossing the line into being annoying.

Look, there is a limit to the total number of recruits a reserve unit / formation can train at any one time...
If they can only train 60, 79 or 90 at any one time and you are number 95... guess what, they'll ask you to wait.

Also, the same as any business, the Reserve units have a financial envelope for pay that they cannot exceed.  If their financial budget for the year says that they can have and pay 250 troops between April and March - then they would be silly to enroll beyond the financial envelope - unless their Chain of Command is willing to "UP" the $$$s.  Else, they are stuck reducing their training for the people over their entitlement.

Your best chance is to continue to show interest in the specific unit you are interested in joining.
On periodic but regular intervals, contact them, visit them.  If they see that you are interested and have what it takes, they will possibly think about you before they think about everyone else.

Southern remember patience is a virtue.  Just like a hole on the wall, if you are an excellent brick among others they will pick you up and stick you right in.

I know we had plenty kitted up and ready to go in the summer, but they didn't have space for everybody. I wonder if the fall courses will be the same.

Anyway, keep working on your PT and hang in there. Show up to the Unit(s) you are interested in around mid September and speak to the Unit Recruiter on parade night. You never know, maybe somebody will put you on PAT until you can get a date. At least you will be in and getting a head start on things like drill, rank structure, how to wear the uniform etc. Good luck.

Can you elaborate on this? My recruiter told me this too but was very vague. Does this mean I get to work with my unit observing what they do before I get sworn in..?

You don't get to do anything until you have been sworn in, its a liability issue.  However, some units may offer you an opportunity to visit during a parade night to observe training but it is an once in a while thing not all the time.

If you are lucky, you can do some things while on PAT. It is a limited role that will allow you to put on the uniform, learn about some of the kit, attend lectures on rank structure, drill, etc. There may be other opportunities that present themselves throughout the year, but they are not the type of things you would read about in a recruiting poster. It is a great opportunity in my opinion, but what is available will depend on where you end up.

My point is if the Unit you intend on joining has a letter for you to take to the recruiting centre, take it and get all of the initial hurdles out of the way. That way you are just waiting on a date for your course, you have secured a spot, and you should have your kit sorted out. Any number of things can happen and you might find yourself on course sooner than expected. The worst thing that can happen is that you will have to wait a while for a date.

He will not be put on PAT as he has not even been enrolled in the CF.

The platoon I am joining is a police Platoon and the recruiter told me on the phone that I would be able to do classroom work, firearms training, uniform etiquette and field excercises with them

Only once you have been sworn in as a CF member and not before.
