Wouldn't even begin to guess at what kind of blast they get out of a 30,000 lb buster buster, which I'm assuming also does a directed blast with some kind of penetration fire, but probably less about shock hardening then being vapourized.

That's amazing, thanks. I'm not smart enough to follow the calculus behind the modeling, but the fun part of all that is that at some point you get to validate the model with experiments, which is where it's fun to do practical science with the big giant brain theorists.

There are also models where you can detonate things in a 3D model of a city and see what happens, which is useful for looking at vulnerabilities to different attacks, but on the flip side also means someone can use it to maximize an attack, and all generally on public record as it started out for earthquakes or something similar.

We use that on warship for vulnerability assesment (which is all public records) but would be curious if building people use it for bunkers, or if they just go full 1940s german engineer.

I'm not sure how reflective that is in relation to current events; the survey was pre-Dec 2024.

Then again, according to the poll, it seems there is little room to go except up:

Lots of ‘right now’ reports of heavy bombing in Tehran, and attacks on at least one base in Iraq. The ceasefire is supposed to take effect in minutes. We’ll have to see if all of the necessary stakeholders are actually on side with this plan.
