I am going reg force and I want to know if there are any civi jobs in the military for my girlfriend.   She has a BA in Psyc and a Minor in business...The reason I ask is because she does not want to be a soldier herself...

Thanks

You could drive a tank...push a broom.. all kinds of jobs like that available...oh.. civvy jobs in the military?  Wouldn't they be called "military" jobs then?  But seriously, some bases do have a civilian hiring section, where all kinds of jobs from secretarial to money management are found.  I am just trying to think who would control that section.. anyone able to help me out with that?  Base comptroller? It's on the tip of my tongue.. darn...

She's better off in the civie world. You might be fireproof as a public servant, but you're not getting rich any time soon.

It was always my impression that civillian jobs within the Department of National Defence are staffed by the Public Service Commision of Canada.  www.jobs.gc.ca.  This being the case you wait until a position is posted for external competition, apply for it and if you're screened in you compete for the position.

Not true.   There are many different types of employment on Bases these days.   PSP and Canex organizations hire.   NPF hires.   There are at least two, maybe three Public Civil Service Unions on bases.   Teachers on Bases are not Civil Servants, coming from the School Boards.   In some places there is also Contract Work.

Civillian jobs within the Federal Department are staffed by the PSC.  Canex/PSP/NPF fall under CPSA which is a government agency and thus able to conduct its own staffing.

Public Service of Canada are the ones to see about working with the Military as a Civi

It depends on the what she wants to do.  Your have PSAC (public service alliance canada).  If she wants in to the medical aspect with her BA in Psyc then go to the Medical clinic on base and find out who the union is.  Here in Gagetown some of the Mental Health civ pers are PSAC, some belong to Med Emerg, and I think that was taken over by Callion.  But best to go to the base and find out.

Now that you have several answers, some of them argumentative in nature, you may want to check the profiles of the posters and find out if they live and work on a CF Base, or are civilians or cadets who have never worked as civilians for the CF on a Base.

Ya I was thinking something along the lines of administration or councelling of some sort but as long as it is something that can uitlize her degree and make a half decent wage so not to waste her schooling on nothing....

Just saw a site but I am damned if I can find it again. The Public Support Agency has job positions ranging from housekeepers, recreation pers. to Canex staff. Most of the positions seemed to be on the eastern side of the country. Next alot of the positions available are taken by retired released reg members. CFB Esquimalt for example probablely has as many xPPCLI working there on the civy side as Work Point had as our home. Check out local school districts, most here out west are always looking for psych majors.
