Joe Rogan and Pierre Poilievre interview

And here is Pierre Poilievre (love him or hate him), with Jamin Laine

Maple MAGA allegations are never going to go away I guess.

Certainly making for a very easy canvas to paint.

Labeling a long running Canadian policy conference as "Maple MAGA" is kind of lazy framing and a way to dismiss it without engaging with the ideas.

They look like a domestic forum for Conservative ideas that's been around for 20 years.

Edit-spelling

Well, when you have known deep MAGA types like Gordon Campbell, and Mike Harris on the list you have to expect to be called Maple MAGA...

It's funny how people opposed to PP and his "MAGA" style divisiveness tend to go super divisive in their descriptions of conservatives... Almost as if the problem isn't all, or even predominantly, on just one side of the political aisle.

Edit: The Pete Hoekstra speaking part is a fireside chat... Seems pretty legitimate to invite the ambassador of our largest trading partner to an event like this for a fireside chat.

Every fireside chat that man takes the opportunity to disparage Canada.

I hope the CPC types in attendance take the opportunity to push back if he steps out of line

Sure, in and of itself benign. But they don’t get the luxury of inviting him but not the baggage of the geopolitical situation and state of the bilateral relationship. Hopefully he’s challenged on some things.

Odd take. You are surprised that there are......conservative thinkers..................at a Conservative Confernce?

The agenda looks quite interesting, as does the lineup of speakers beyond the "headliners".

Sounds like just the sort of thing any political movement or ideology needs to spend time on.

What is your concern?

It's interesting that your base assumption is that conservatives are inherently likely to not counter anti-Canadian messaging, and are hoping that they will overcome their inherent anti-Canadian nature to make arguments for Canada...

One of the reasons it can be argued they lost the last election is because the LPC went full guns ablazing agaisnt America and Trump while the CPC focused on the LPC and didn't have much to say on Trump.

PP has been better on that front recently, but if they let Mr Hoekstra talk about how everything wrong with the Canada USA relationship is due to Canada, they had better tell him where he can stick it.

If they passively just let him run his mouth and don't stand up for Canada, they deserve the maple maga moniker.

Are you holding Liberals to the same standard as Conservatives here?

I believe that people who invite Pete Hoekstra to a political event in Canada, and whose invitation he accepts, regardless of their political stripe, bear the onus of convincing me that they will be sufficiently critical of and challenging towards his positions as his country’s representative in Canada. I’m perfectly prepared to be convinced of that and it wouldn’t be difficult. Simple, civil, firm pushback on the trade war positions.

I seriously laugh every time I hear the term "Maple MAGA" . To me, it is a contradictions of terms, someone accusing someone of being for a strong Canada and at the same time hoping for a strong USA., unable to make up their mind which of the two to make great.
