. . . who was the very last soldier in the west to be issued the complete 1952 web gear? Hint: it was issued in 1985 in Victoria BC. well tell you in awhile.
I don't know if this is still the current practise, but when I was there in 1986 (87?) (as a visitor) and again in 1998, the '51 ptrn webbing was part of a prisoner's layout (including mess tins). Ahh...steelwooling the eyelets down to bare metal and either shining them or re-blackening - sounds like fun.
I agree with your assessment. I have a drawer full of various vintages. And in case you are wondering, I have not matched the coloured toe threads which makes me a s-s-slovenly s-s-soldier.
